Re: Knowledge Curation

One minor detail is that on that thread, at least some of the posts are time-stamped on that front screen of Forum Results one hour different from the post times in the thread.
The search displays time in UTC. The forums display it in the users Time zone.

Re: Knowledge Curation

After we've solved this, we should make a start on World Peace :) Seriously, it's a good question but I'm not sure there is a good answer. The place I know that does this best is the StackExchange collection of Q&A sites (never call them a forum!) but they do it at the expense of perceived friendlin...

Re: Advice - Wholesale Changes

I agree with Nick. If you use AS, starting from scratch should not be much more work that amending what you already have, and you'll probably have a more consistent result at the end of it.

Re: Advice - Wholesale Changes

Whether starting from scratch might be a better option will depend on what else you may need to do, so I'd suggest taking a good look at what else you might want to check before making the decision. A project of 600 people isn't that large, and if you make use of DEAs or Ancestral Sources to streaml...

Re: Privatise or Remove certain Media links from Gedcom Export

Brian beat me to the Crown Copyright point (which is not the same as public domain). I'll point out that there are different rules around certificates etc. created outside the UK, so worth checking if there are any more restrictive rules on sources you have.

Re: A strange curved grey line in my diagram

It's a 'ribbon' linking two instances in the diagram of the same person. With the diagram option, go to Diagram > Options and either choose not to 'Check for Duplicates' or explore the Options button next to that checkbox and perhaps turn off 'Link Duplicates in the diagram'. This is the relevant He...

Re: Source and Citation Text to Source Rich Text & Tables

The existing DEAs look for a template with a specific name, so yours isn't used. Two choices: save the original with a different name and Rename yours in its place. Or delete the original and rename yours. If you delete the original and don't replace it with yours the DEA will recreate the original,...

Personally, I'd add it to the FH script -- keep everything in one place, but that's just a preference.

Is there a quick key or keyboard combination that would give the system date?
You could look at AutoHotkey if you felt confident to create or modify one of its scripts.

Re: Source and Citation Text to Source Rich Text & Tables

Jane's plugin is irrelevant if PP follows my advice, which also means that the reformatting (for new sources) is done only once per Source type.

Re: Source and Citation Text to Source Rich Text & Tables

BTW: Generic Sources can benefit from Autotext, Source-Dr...

I have used Jane's Convert Text from Source to Rich Text and Tables a few times, but you still need to reformat the data for a nice presentation and I think this only works for Sources and not Citation Text to Source?
PP
Yes, the plugin only works for Text for Source in Sources, not Citations.

On the main menu choose Tools and then External File Links... You'll be shown a 'tree' of your file (media) links and where they are pointing. Broken links will have a red cross next to them. You have two options: 1. Click on the button saying 'Auto Repair Links'. From the Help: This button will pro...

Re: Synchronizing Family Historian Settings

I'll add to Mark's caveats that it isn't unusual to use FH differently on a laptop from a desktop. My laptop is for capturing source information while I'm out and about -- which means I need very few if any plugins (my old Research Planner plugin was the only one I had on my laptop, and now I don't ...

Re: Change Specific Fact - Error on run

I'll raise a ticket with CP, suggesting that FH checks for missing values, and replaces with default ones. I'll also go through the other Fact Set files in the KB later to see if any other ones are affected. My only concern is that a Fact without a Timeframe or any of place, date, address, note, et...

Re: Change Specific Fact - Error on run

Helen, I agree. It started out with a limited scope of Wish List Ref 191 File Summary Display and Show Project Statistics seemed reasonable at the time 10 years ago, but like most plugins, its scope has enlarged often in response to user requests. Perhaps a new plugin with a new name could be publi...

Re: Change Specific Fact - Error on run

Mark, I wonder how many corrupted Fact Set files there are out there. It seems that FH does not do much to validate the Fact Set file format and structure. Should that be reported to CP, or should Fact Set file validation be added to a plugin such as Show Project Statistics that checks for all mann...

Re: Force DEA to run without setting required fields

Ok.

A couple of questions:

Do you have fields in your template for: the Date of Census, and the Region (Country) and Place of the census.

If so, what are they called.

Ditto for a Head of Household field.
