Re: Repository not showing in Source List
Have a look now.
I know your plugin copies the Repository metafields, but that doesn't overcome the other drawbacks mentioned.

Re: Repository not showing in Source List
I've written a KB article on how to configure using the Generic Repository Field rather than a templated metafield.

Re: which backup plugin
The newest one (https://pluginstore.family-historian.co.uk/page/plugin/backup-and-restore-family-historian-settings-via-windows) is simpler, and has options that allow you to run it as part of a PC backup strategy, which is why I use it, but if you're happy to the older one (https://pluginstore.fami...

Re: Surname changes
The same happens with a similar search in the KB. The page is listed twice on one line but both refer to fh6. If Advanced search is used and Help V7 ticked then that Help page is not listed at all. Whereas, if Help V6 is ticked the Help page is listed twice on the same line for fh6.. Sounds like th...

Re: Simple descendant chart
That style of chart (with lines) was available on V. 6.. I still have the installation file for V 6. Is it possible to run both V6 and V 7 on the one computer. That way I could save a GEDCOM file from V7, run it on V6 and get outline charts. This would be v. useful, as these are the charts I mostly...

Re: Repository not showing in Source List
I think the most important piece of advice is to pick one sort of source and stick to it. Switching horses is a nightmare. I can remember spending weeks sorting out formats for generic sources back in the day, so I don't think that's a unique feature of templated sources. And I do wonder sometimes i...

Re: Surname changes
Mike, the link I posted was direct from https://www.fhug.org.uk/forumsearch/index-new.php?topic%5Bquery%5D=alternate%20names result 10. I didn't notice it was fh6. Does something need updating to make the search give fh7 results? The forum search gives both FH6 and FH7, but doesn't have any filters...

Re: Repository not showing in Source List
The Export point is one to consider, but I don't think any of the other considerations outweigh the benefits of templated sources. So, is export a regular part of your workflow? I use it for cousin bait, and website generation, but don't find the templatated sources a major problem but it does very ...

Re: Repository not showing in Source List
If you're going to restart the project, I'd definitely use templated sources. And take the time to ensure that the templates reflect how you want to work rather than having to go back and tweak things first.

Re: Repository not showing in Source List
My project is already quite large and has been created using the generic record for my sources. I've just changed up to Version 7 and started using the templates so now have a mix. If I was to start over again I probably would just use the templated sources. I strongly encourage you to think long a...

OK. Give me a while -- if I'm going to document it, I might as well do it in a KnowledgeBase article that others can find easily.

Re: Repository not showing in Source List
Mike's suggestion will work if you are only using templated sources. If you are mixing them (which we don't recommend for reasons such as this) you may want to adjust the templates instead, to use the same Repository field as generic sources. This would be more work, especially if you've already cre...

According to the internet, around the WW1 1914-18 medals rim there should be name, rank and service no, around my grandfathers there's just his name, can you tell me why this is please This has been covered already. The "Internet" is talking about Military medals. Your grandfather's medal...

Re: Restart FH at the exact same point where you left of last time.
Interestingly that shows that 28 Wish List items have already been implemented in FH v7 which is nearly twice as many (15) that were implemented by FH v6. The average across all FH versions is nearly 40 per major version. I suspect the number goes down as the complexity of the changes goes up (and ...

Re: Restart FH at the exact same point where you left of last time.
Tick Show Completed and then Go. I tried indeed, but whenI looked at those posts, I could not see from the posts itself they were added to FH. Maybe add another part to "description" stating in which version this was implemented? image.png People might still keep voting for it now. CP sho...

Re: Restart FH at the exact same point where you left of last time.
What I am missing is a column in the wishlist that said if it was indeed implemented in a new version, and in what version. If that column was there, less users would be wondering if anything happens to those wishes. Tick Show Completed and then Go. It should be more easily findable. Now I find lin...

Re: Restart FH at the exact same point where you left of last time.
I'm not convinced that requoting a message from SIXTEEN YEARS ago is really relevant. What is relevant to me is the action taken on items in the wishlist, and that seems minimal. Maybe the FH author did take some notice 16 years ago, it doesn't mean they look at it now, and experience seems to dict...

Re: Restart FH at the exact same point where you left of last time.
Users often ask if Calico Pie check on the Wish List to try and align with current user needs. They do and state so in this response to a question on new versions on the FHU mailing list 24 June 2008. I do of course understand why you ask, but I'm afraid we don't give out that kind of information. ...
