Re: Vanishing plugin windows

Or to use iup.message... Can you confirm that your 'vanishing' problems vanished once you started using dialogue.BringFront="YES" Can't see how it would work with fhMessagebox as you don't know the dialog handle (cue a messagebox function that takes the parent dialog as a parameter -- I us...

Re: Vanishing plugin windows

If I use fhMessageBox, once the message is acknowledged the plugin has vanished behind FH.

If I use iup.message (or its variants, however ugly) the stack order is observed.

I haven't tried debug mode, but will experiment more,

Vanishing plugin windows

I know Tatewise has had problems with plugin windows vanishing behind Family Historian, and I've recently observed the same thing -- but for me it seems to be linked to using fhMessageBox. Does anyone have any evidence to confirm or contradict that this is the problem?

Re: Draft pages and Downloads in Knowledge Base

Just thinking aloud -- if the help file has been uploaded, I suspect it can be downloaded without actually appearing on any wiki page as long as my plugin knows the url

Re: Draft pages and Downloads in Knowledge Base

Yes, it wouldn't be a user download, but it has to be available on the FHUG wiki to be downloaded by the Plugin (I could park it somewhere else but users would rightly be suspicious of a plugin that downloaded 'stuff' from a website they have no clue about.) Which is why I'm adding it directly to 'm...

Re: Contribute Your Knowledge Improvements

I'll try and make some time later in the week to come up with a task-oriented structure, but it would turn the existing structure on its head -- instead of Beginners Guide, Intermediate Guide, Advance Guide, Really Super-Advanced stuff, you'd have bite-size chunks (even if they're implemented as anc...

Re: Draft pages and Downloads in Knowledge Base

Re your structure, if you go to Downloads and Links, and then Reports Types, you see two Fact Sets at the top of the list of Reports (one of which is your to-do list), which just seems... odd. It's probably a result of all the cross-linking -- but I'd rather keep things simple and in one place. (How...

Re: Contribute Your Knowledge Improvements

I'm still confused about the Trace. I've just opened the Knowledge Base in a completely separate browser, on the Home page, and it's showing the Trace as Downloads.... When I have some time, I'll investigate further. The simple changes you've made are good, but I still think there's a systematic pro...

Re: Draft pages and Downloads in Knowledge Base

Mike, As I'm producing a collection of components that are designed to be used together, I'm not sure that splitting them up within the Downloads section according to the type of Download makes sense -- if people come to them via my page, fine, but if they find a subset of the components in isolatio...

Re: Contribute Your Knowledge Improvements

Mike, I agree -- maintaining basic textual pages (which I would argue includes downloadable links) ought to be relatively easy, but -- as I've found out -- there are some gotchas (and I anticipate I haven't tripped over all of them yet). I will think whether there are any suggestions I can make abou...

Re: Contribute Your Knowledge Improvements

Information about the Pushfile plugin is only available if you know you need to look for it. How might I have known that? Well, like a good little girl, I started at : Knowledge Base > Contribute Your Knowledge . Nope, I don't need the Beginners Guide -- it will only tell me the basics of page forma...

If you add media files from an 'ordinary' page, you get a vocabulary tree to choose from, e.g. [root] ancestralsources contributeyourknowledge fhugdownloads gedcomcensus glossary how_to about create_locations_database_details delete_data_for_living_people exchange_with_ftm importing make...

Re: Draft pages and Downloads in Knowledge Base

Pardon my ignorance, but where do I specify what 'vocabulary' it sits within and how do I add it to "my" page? Dumping it in downloadable files without context doesn't make sense.

Re: Draft pages and Downloads in Knowledge Base

Mike, I created a page as we'd previously discussed (and marked it Fix Me just in case anyone stumbled across it). I then created a Downloads section (as it made sense within the context of the page) and added a media file using the Media Manager. I understand the pushfile alternative, but if the st...

Re: Draft pages and Downloads in Knowledge Base

Odd -- different pages seem to have different urls for downloads. The one I've created (for example) has urls in the form of:

Code: Select all

Re: Easy military facts entry?

Colin, I'm getting to grips with Lua after a lifetime developing in other languages, but (fortuitously) have been spending most of my time recently working on templates that create records of various types. My suggestion would be a plugin that: Allows you to define a set of target fact types (with p...

Re: Easy military facts entry?

Sounds like a classic application for a plugin that creates multiple facts (using variables you define) linked to the same source... A field for each value extracted from the source, and then one button click to make all the Facts. I'm up to my neck, or I might volunteer to write it... it's the kind...

Re: Draft pages and Downloads in Knowledge Base

Thanks, Mike. I've started coding it myself -- I think it's a simpler use case -- it's tested but I need to add in some error handling for when the download fails or the destination file can't be created because it already exists. I'll use the Penlight Path library (as it's loaded anyway) for testin...

Re: Draft pages and Downloads in Knowledge Base

Not sure why I'd expect ancillary files to change once the plugin is released until a new version is released -- it's not as if Calico Pie (for example) continuously update their Help file during the life time of a version, and a plugin is most often considerably simpler. Logic would be something li...

Re: Draft pages and Downloads in Knowledge Base

No intention to show the KB files directly in the plugin -- I've never been convinced it's the right way to deliver help -- although I still need to decide how best to do it, I'm most used to delivering .chm files (which I would load into the plugin data folder and update it and when the plugin was ...

Draft pages and Downloads in Knowledge Base

Is there any way to create a draft page in the knowledge base? I want to draft a page describing a plugin and a set of ancillary downloads (queries, fact set, possibly .chm file) , and test everything before I release it. (The plugin will have an option to download all the other items automatically)...
