Re: What to call a person who is not a progenitor

Mike, most of the people involved are residents, so it's accurate but not specific.

Has anyone suggested Unrelated yet (as in no known Grimbarian relatives identified yet)?

You could use that useful catch-all: others.

Re: Obvious problem not staring me in the face

Mike, I only want the Sources for text items that have sources -- if the text item does not have a source (either because one isn't specified, or because one isn't allowed), I don't want its parent's source -- that isn't relevant.

Re: Obvious problem not staring me in the face

The #RN could be in any text field, including Fact note, Note record, Local note for an individual, Place note -- some of which can have sources, some of which (e.g. Place Note) can't. I want to return a ptr item for the Source for the text field if one exists, and a ptr item for the Repository for ...

Obvious problem not staring me in the face

Can I ask for a new pair of eyes on some code please? I've been staring at it so long I'm missing the obvious! The code below is correctly finding items containing a particular text string, but it is not finding the associated first source and linked repository pointers (where these exist). No doubt...

Alternatively:

Tools menu item > Preferences > general > Timelines Settings (button at bottom left). Turn off the ones you don't want or turn them all off.

Re: Running reports from lua

Some years ago, I wrote some code to splice elements from two different website generators into a set of output files organised/reordered in a way that made sense to me (also with some logic about including and excluding elements). It was a three-pass process: generate website A; generate website B;...

Hadn't though of using Calibre -- it's an excellent suggestion.

Re: Running reports from lua

I think Jane meant that you can define a website including the report wanted, and will end up with one html file per individual. No plugins involved. And if you have the right software, you can create pdf files in bulk from html files... (I won't recommend the programme I use because ti wasn't cheap).

Davidf, you're only getting older at the same rate as the rest of us.

Just a pity that the destination is closer for some of us.

Mike, unless Jane is going to rewrite standard themes (which she should not even consider) what we see is what we get.

Re: Ancestral Sources not updating FH6

John, how do you launch AS? There are two methods: one uses a plugin (Ancestral Sources Data Entry) and one launches it just like any other programme from e.g. you Start menu?

Re: Forcing an Iup text field to have a value

I have two Close buttons: Confirm and Cancel (which resets the form to the values when it was invoked before exiting). Re catch-22: An empty field is invalid only when the Confirm button is pressed, otherwise it is assumed to be a point on a journey to a valid field. I also use the .Active extensive...

Re: Forcing an Iup text field to have a value

I do much the same, passing parameters in a table.

Unfortunately, in this case the boiler plate is not for simple iup fields, it's for a whole sub-system of config management...

I shall work it out. At least I know I haven't overlooked a mechanism I could explore.

Re: Forcing an Iup text field to have a value

I can use the close_cb callback, but that will involve changes to some boilerplate (with extensive retesting of 3 plugins.). Might be the only way though.

Hey ho.

Re: Forcing an Iup text field to have a value

No, I'm using my own dialog.

The Action callback is hard to use as it fires for every character change... and you never know which is the last!

valuechanged_cb doesn't allow you to reject the change.

Re: Ancestral Sources not updating FH6

Sorry to be blunt, but 'of course' usually means somebody didn't check. Are both programmes using the same file name within the same project name in the same location? A mismatch is almost always the cause of this sort of problem. Have you made any changes recently on your system? Does it work for s...

Forcing an Iup text field to have a value

I have some text fields in a plugin that must not be left blank. There are toggles the user can set to disregard a field (rather than use a blank value). I can set a mask of "/S+" to ensure that, if the user does enter anything, it must be at least one non-blank word character, and initialise to a n...
