Re: Map Life Facts and Leaflet

Mike 1. The integrity code (if I remember correctly) is an additional security measure to deal with potential script injection attacks -- unlikely to happen in this use case. 2. I can't help re Mapbox Streets as I don't use them, but instinctively, I'd prefer a separate key per user. 3. The Bing int...

I do something similar to David but using a different editor (not free, so I won't recommend it).

Colin, yes, I saw you're earlier post, but I thought it worth bringing attention to Tony's improvements as well.

New tool for generating navigable trees

I haven't tried this yet, but it might be of interest? It can now import from a Gedcom file.

Re: Reporting Issues

I'm with Mervyn and Lorna -- a user forum like FHUG is a totally different kettle of fish to a product developer supporting his own product. And formalising the process of getting help doesn't seem (to me) to fit well with what a user group is -- even if people would read the guidelines.

Re: Reporting Issues

"If you contact us and ask for help, please follow the first expert's advice, and be wary of input from others."

This works if there's a main support person, but are you really suggesting that if the first person to respond is talking rubbish, nobody else should be listened to?

Re: Start over?

Mike, If FH crashes and won't restart I can reinstall it. My files are backed up overnight to two separate places and are also in Dropbox (so effectively are backed up offsite soon after they're created as well as to a local NAS). If I need to find a file without using FH, my naming structure allows...

Re: Start over?

I've been doing a 'do-over' for 18 months and have found both errors and new information (because I'm a better genealogist than I was when I started). And it's been an opportunity to improve the way I cite my sources, and to revamp my image storage. On images, I've moved away from an elaborate filin...

Re: Create dynamic website

Paul, I'd agree. Gedmill is no longer supported, but will produce 3 generation mini-trees if you're happy to live without support -- I used it for a long time (and it's free). Ancestral Author (I believe -- I've no experience with it) produces hyperlinked pdfs with no diagrams -- not free? Gedsite i...

You could look at something like GedSite (a standalone website generator) to see if it meets your needs.

Re: Sorting Children

No, there isn't a way to get FH to do what you want other than sorting manually. I do disagree with your statement: In the vast majority of cases, families tend to 'christen' their children in the UK when they are babies 99% of my ancestors are in the UK. Many of them (as non-conformists) practiced ...

Re: Sorting Children

I'm guessing you don't have any adult baptisms? Or children baptised twice in different (or the same) churches? Baptism date is often used as a proxy for birth date, but it's often unreliable. As a workaround for your needs, as long as you're sure the birth and baptism dates are close, could you put...

Re: Internet Data Match hints from FamilySearch?

Some of the hints MyHeritage reports are from FamilySearch trees (not sure if they use the record sets but doubt it).

I get around the Ancestry lack by uploading a private tree and looking for the shaky leaves on-site.

Order facts in diagram by date

I'd like the ability to order whatever facts are included in a diagram's text scheme by date rather than group them by Tag as is the only option at present. (Including All Facts and Attributes is overkill and ends up with unacceptably large diagram boxes in most cases).

Ordering facts in diagram boxes

I use a text scheme in my diagram boxes that includes both Census and Residence facts as well as Birth Baptism Marriage Death Burial, so that I can get an overview of an individual's timeline in the diagram itself. I suspect I know the answer to this, but: is there any way to get the residence censu...

Re: Source Window Focus - Keyboard Usage

Must be nice to have a list of sources uniquely identifiable by their initial characters :)

If I type anything more than a single character, it selects the first source beginning with the last character I typed -- useless. So how do you select a source based on the 'first few characters'?

Spencerdudeuk, even if I type in enough in the filter box to uniquely identify a source, it isn't selected (and return doesn't expand it) until I click on it -- how are you selecting it?
