Re: New Multifact plugin

I don't do any image processing, so it isn't that, I'm afraid.

Re: New Multifact plugin

No, that is useful -- even if it doesn't tell me what the problem is -- thanks. Re custom events, if they are INDIVIDUAL facts, they should show up in the list of facts you can choose from. Not Family events though -- the plugin only handles individual facts. Re place 1 and PLace 2, I'm afraid it wi...

Re: New Multifact plugin

Any Attribute value you add is applied to all Attributes created (not events, as they don't take a value). Screenshot 2019-03-19 10.08.31.jpg So if entering a passenger list, having selected the source and individuals, I enter the date, Place and Place2 plus a note (typically identifying the ship, b...

Re: New Multifact plugin

Mike, No -- but given that most plugins require library modules, I'd expect it to be something specific to this plugin... And Jane managed to reduce the load time from 40 seconds to 24 by tidying up her fact sets, so they must be at least part of the challenge (but perhaps not all of it). Jane, do y...

Re: New Multifact plugin

OK, here's the latest version which I think addresses all the issues raised so far -- with one exception (which I will come to). Multifact.fh_lua The one outstanding problem is Jane's slow loading time -- I've put in a progressbar as advised by Mike Tate, but the size of Jane's fact files (which I'v...

Re adding a single fact more than once, yes -- although you will have to do them in separate 'passes' (which can be done without closing the plugin.)

Re: New Multifact plugin

Mike

For each expander after visible = "YES"; add action = function() refresh(dlgmain) end;

This approach means that if the main dialog has been enlarged, using an expander returns it to its minimum size -- is this what you expected?

Re: New Multifact plugin

Mike, for some reason I can't get Place2 to have a tip. Re Place2/Caus/Attrib I agree they should be handled consistently and will fix that but am not convinced they should be disabled when no facts are chosen. I can envisage a way of working that extracts all the information from a source and uses ...

Re: New Multifact plugin

Colin, it may be the first thing to try is delete the existing pl directory, in case its 'partial' presence is confusing matters?

Re: New Multifact plugin

Pl is a library that provides functionality that other plugins may not require.... the ability to use it (if a plugin requires) it is provided by Calico Pie.

Re: New Multifact plugin

Mike, have you managed to assign a tip to a list without an editbox? I can't make it work. re disabling Place2 etc on startup, I'm torn -- without a fact selected how can I know if they're valid or not? I can envisage a scenario where somebody fills in all the Fact details and then chooses the facts...

Re: Mapping Issue

Jonathan

you might want to look at the Rearrange Address and Place Parts plugin to see if it will shorten your trip around the world... It's very likely that Mike Tate (who wrote it) will be along soon with some advice.

Re: New Multifact plugin

Colin, that suggests that all the other plugins you use don't rely on the pl library. If you want to try it before we get to the root of the problem, as you've already got the pl library installed, you can change this line if not fhloadrequire("pl","pl.init") then return end -- L...

Re: New Multifact plugin

Thanks, Mike. Noted re tips but I'm not convinced there's any value putting a tip on the straightforward text fields or dropdowns that mimic FH fact entry or buttons that have self-explantory labels like Exit.. I have missed Place2 (as it isn't always used) and will fix that (although the tip won't ...

Re: New Multifact plugin

John, if you haven't used a plugin that needs pl support before you would expect to get that message; things worked as they should for you and you shouldn't be prompted to download it again now. Colin, your behaviour is very odd (not your personal behaviour, of course!) -- do you still have the Rese...

Re: New Multifact plugin

Mike, that's reassuring... I suppose it might be a difference on PC capabilities (memory, hard disk type, processor). I'll still look at optimising.

Re: New Multifact plugin

Colin, According to Research Planner Technical Nuts & Bolts (16411) where you were having a similar problem, you already have pl support in place, so I'm mystified as to why it is trying to install it again. Can you check that it's still there (the pl folder within your plugin folder)?

Re: New Multifact plugin

No, Cause is only enabled for Death facts (as FH doesn't support it in the fact type definition). I know it can be added to any fact, in FH, but not as part of the standard Fact entry. For me, the Activity log when expanded causes the other fields in the plugin to contract. I'll look at creating it ...

Re: New Multifact plugin

Thanks, Mike -- I'd wrestled my way to visiblelines being the solution, but hadn't got as far as considering columns yet. I've built both into the 'lego' plus appropriate expansion defaults. Rather than use visiblecolumns in this instance though, I've gone with expandchildren on the vbox. New versio...

Thanks Mike. Those will both be fixed in the next version... just as soon as I work out how to get the scrollbars! I'm glad it's not only me that's puzzled.

P.S. Have relabeled Cancel as Exit to make its purpose clearer.

Colin, see New Multifact plugin (16685) which might be what you want (or as close to it as I can get).
