Re: Insert PDF or Doc into Publish-Book
.... Yes, it may be feasible with enough effort, but is it really what users want Calico Pie to devote their time to when there are straightforward workarounds for the majority of cases where the PDF is just one or two images. Personally there are more pressing long-standing issues in the Wish List...

Re: Insert PDF or Doc into Publish-Book
Those open source PDF and DOCX viewers and editors have invested a great deal of time & coding into understanding and rendering those document formats as published by Adobe and Microsoft. They are not interrogating just the dimensions, they are interpreting the entire document format specificat...

Re: Insert PDF or Doc into Publish-Book
So for these documents there shouldn't be any problem for the OS in determining the display area required and to be able to scale the document to fit the actual display space available eg A4. Well if you want the OS to do this perhaps you should be directing this a Microsoft, Calico Pie will certai...

Re: Insert PDF or Doc into Publish-Book
I get the feeling, perhaps unfairly, that some of you are allowing the operating system to limit your ambitions rather than finding ways to make the OS do what you want. There are plenty of pdf display programs aside from Adobe's products so it must be possible to achieve what is required. As others...

Re: Insert PDF or Doc into Publish-Book
Given that the GRO now supplies Birth and Death Certificates in .pdf format there is an even greater urgency for FH to be able to display this format within the program without the need to load external programs and to display them properly in printouts and in books. Those of us familiar with Apple ...

Re: 6.2.6 Released
Thanks Jane and Mike. I saw the comment about "losing" rejected hints just after I posted but thanks for the link. I'm surprised that the "light colour problem" or "faint hints" hasn't been dealt with as this seems to have been around for quite a long time. Whilst I use...

FH 6.2.6 FMP Hints
Thanks for this, Jane, and I have downloaded and installed the update. The update doesn't seem to have solved the problem with the FMP display, where the hints can be very faint or even invisible but it seems to have added a new Reject button to each hint. This is very useful as it means that hints ...

I'll have a look at them.... the two Plugins do take Source Citations into account, and you choose who to investigate, and which websites to search.
Many thanks.

Re: Internet Data Matching
Thanks for your quick response, Mike. Yes, I suspected that I was expecting too much although, interestingly, your reference to the Drag & Drop guide may have been what I vaguely recall and thinking that a whole record could be simply dragged to a person's record. I did read the KB article on In...

Internet Data Matching
Good afternoon everyone, After a bit of a break I am trying to get back to some family history research and make the most of the hundreds, if not thousands of Internet Data Matches from FindMyPast that have appeared on my Family Historian family tree. Despite trawling through the FHUG Forums and Kno...

Error Message in Tablet Mode
I am using Windows 10, Ver 1607. When in Tablet Mode I click on Add/View Images a new window opens but displays the following error message: 2017-01-12.png Clicking Continue clears the error message and the Image Viewer window then functions normally. This message is not displayed in normal Windows ...

Re: FindMyPast Hints
When I previously raised the issue with FMP I was not really surprised that they tried to put the pass the buck back to Calico Pie although I agree with Jane that FMP must be involved as it is their data - both genealogical and subscription - that is part of the problem. In any event, FMP must be pa...

FindMyPast Hints
I still cannot see a way to reject FMP hints from data sources outside the UK which are not covered by my FMP UK sub. I raised the problem with FMP but they claimed it was a matter for Calico Pie. Does anyone know if Calico Pie is working on a solution? It is particularly problematic for ancestors w...

I'm getting the same problem even when I'm signed in. But sometimes - not always - maximising the window clears the "fog".

Re: Upgrading to version 6.2.1
Mike, I tried Retry a couple of times but got the same message each time. I then Aborted and downloaded the upgrade file from the FH web site, as you suggest. That seemed to work.

Re: Upgrading to version 6.2.1
Having used FH itself to download and install the upgrade I also got an error message: FHErrorMessage.png and worryingly when I checked the file listings FH.exe had been deleted. However, I then downloaded the upgrade file directly from the FH web site and ran it. This time it did install and FH see...

FH 6.2 - Internet Data Matches
The following seems to be (part of) the current Help page for Internet Data Matches/Matching: Screen Shot 2016-04-05 at 14.42.25.png Paragraph 2 in respect of FMP records is now incorrect as it is not possible to Confirm/Accept or Reject a match if you don't have an FMP subscription covering the ref...

Re: FH 6.2 - FindMyPast Hints
... Going back to the original posting by Gerry , the process would suggest that there is no way to Accept/Reject a hint in a FMP collection for which you do not have a subscription. If this is the case then this is a serious problem. I do not need hints from foreign record sets for ancestors who s...

Re: FH 6.2 - FindMyPast Hints
I find that for FMP the transcript text must be selected, i.e. turned blue, using the standard ways of selecting text in any Windows application, and then the drag & drop and copy & paste options are enabled. Where do you drag and drop the text to? I have clearly misunderstood what the poin...

Re: FH 6.2 - FindMyPast Hints
1) See how_to:copy_paste_and_drag_drop|> Copy & Paste and Drag & Drop . The techniques are different depending on whether some text or an image is involved. Also the FH internal Web Search Window is more likely to support Drag & Drop than an External Web Browser window. Although I could...
