Re: Short dates and place name for Gedcom export to Family Tree DNA

Mike,

FTDNA have just rolled out a new version of their Family Tree software. They are busy migrating existing trees to the new system. This should, they say, be completed by the end of the month.
I will try the plugin once they complete their update.

Re: Help and Advice page Script Error Code 0

Mike,

I can live with it.

Thanks for all your help. :D

If you would like any help with DNA please just ask. I am in contact with Les Tate a fellow researcher with a very distant proven connection. Early Scottish Clan history.

Re: Help and Advice page Script Error Code 0

Hi all,

That's a relief. Beginning to think I'd caused it.

So as it doesn't stop the plugin working do we need to worry ???

I had a read through https://love2dev.com/blog/javascript-strict-mode/

Maybe try TypeScript and ESLint for syntax errors.

Doh.

It would help if mention was made in that error report as a reminder.

My "lot" were in Catholic areas in N E Scotland.

Re: How do you include DNA results

I think FTDNA still accept 23 and Me tests. What is he hoping to discover ? Where are your roots ?

I suggest everyone joins any obvious surname projects but also a haplogroup and a geographic project. You can join as many projects as you want.

Re: Short dates and place name for Gedcom export to Family Tree DNA

Mike, I just recalled I did get a warning during Clean Living Persons stating - Get Day Number issue for 12 September 1752 So replaced it with 2 September 1752 I clicked on OK to close the warning. I've tried to find the date to see what might be wrong but it doesn't seem to exist. I will continue l...

Re: How do you include DNA results

Jane, have you uploaded your Ancestry results to FTDNA ? They do a Free Transfer and then you can join surname, haplogroup and geographic projects. They charge a small amount for use of their functions. It will give you access to their database for reviewing any autosomal matches. If you have access...

Re: Short dates and place name for Gedcom export to Family Tree DNA

Mike, I exported a new copy of my file for an Ancestry upload. I haven't actually uploaded it as I managed to do that the other day. I ran Clean Living Persons - all OK Trim Date & Text Fields - all OK I clicked on Run for the Export Gedcom File but before I could click on, or set, any options that ...

Jane,

what is it you record ? Do you use DYS scores, terminal haplogroups & private variants or reported matches ?

How do you add the details ?

Re: Short dates and place name for Gedcom export to Family Tree DNA

Mike, I just went through the process again and did not get the error message. I used separate copies of my original project for each. Both uploaded successfully and work correctly. The error message I listed is all correct. I did a screen grab and tried to copy it to my previous post but had no luc...

Re: Short dates and place name for Gedcom export to Family Tree DNA

Mike,

I just uploaded exactly what I wanted on both Ancestry and FTDNA. Only one error report -

Line 1
Char 45041
Error Syntax error
Code 0
URL <Admin edit removed source code dump as it had nothing to do with the export>

Selected "Yes" to continue script and it appears to work.

Re: How do you include DNA results

Hi William, FTDNA have a sale on at present. They have a very good offer on Big-Y700 at $229 for anyone upgrading form Y-STR111. They have reduced the cost of the test by separating access to the BAM file which not everyone wants. With these prices anyone can now go straight for a Big-Y700 test whic...

Hi William,

That's a good start. It makes sense.

So do you know many of your cousins scores or mismatched STRs ?

How do you include DNA results

Hi All,

I can see discussion on DNA. So does anyone have a good way to include DNA results in FH projects ?

I am interested in including not just Y-SNP terminal haplogroups but Y-STR scores if at all practical.

How do folk handle Y-STR, Y-SNP, autosomal and mtDNA data ?

Re: Short dates and place name for Gedcom export to Family Tree DNA

Thanks Mike,

Ideal options would be as per your suggestion - No trimming; Delete everything; Delete [[private]] text;

I note your comments re Undo.

I found the view source link.

Re: DNA Descent through the male line

Sorry, I still don't see how that DNA trace back works if you have no DNA samples from any ancestors. I appreciate that parts of my DNA are derived from various ancestors, but how do know who they are if I don't have their DNA. Mike and everyone, This is an old thread but I'm eagerly reading throug...

Re: Short dates and place name for Gedcom export to Family Tree DNA

Mike, I'm trying to break the plugin. It seems to work fine for Ancestry. I needed a (Dummies) set of instructions . So here it is. 1. Copy backup of FH project for exporting to Filename . Check it is using UTF-8 not UTF-16 2. Run Clean Living Persons plugin to remove living persons details. 3. Run ...

Re: Short dates and place name for Gedcom export to Family Tree DNA

Hi Mike, I've been uploading small test Gedcoms to Ancestry.co.uk . It throws an error when using UTF-8 but ANSI seems to work fine. I've not tried any other Formats. Ancestry being American ANSI seemed the logical one to try first. The end results are fine. I may need to be more consistent when add...

Re: Short dates and place name for Gedcom export to Family Tree DNA

Mike, Do you need anything else from me ? Obviously I will be happy to run tests using your plugin on my tree. DNA is the same as any other resource available for genealogical research. It is a good, if not the only, way to prove your conventional research. Everyone holds their little piece of infor...
