Re: Back up to external drive
I did not say everything is OK, but that is the gist of what I said at much greater length. My Family.fh_proj is now where it should be and a random sample of various media suggests everything else is where it should be as well. I have even done a full backup to the memory stick. Once again a mega t...

Re: Back up to external drive
I'm afraid not. I assume this is because My Family.fh_proj was a file, not a sub folder, in C: Users>George>My Documents>Family Historian Projects. I have dragged and dropped it into the My Family project and My Family is now listed in the project window and opens as a project , with all the backup ...

Re: Back up to external drive
Found it! It is not in the My Family sub folder but listed with all my projects as if it is a project itself. I'm afraid I have no idea how this happened except that 1 or 2 years ago I spent quite a lot of time moving a few image files so that when I tried to view them in FH they were not crossed ou...

Re: Back up to external drive
The inconsistencies exist only in my last post. Sorry about that. I am usually quite pedantic in such matters, especially where other people's errors are concerned. So it is inexcusable that I should commit the same sin. Please excuse me. My Family is not listed in File>Project Window although all t...

Re: Back up to external drive
Thanks for that. I had spotted that I was opening a Gedcom file, but assumed it was within the appropriate project. According to Windows Explorer, the file path is Libraries/Documents/My Documents/Family Historian Projects/My Family/MyFamily.fh.data/MyFamily.ged, where My Family is the project name....

Re: Back up to external drive
I have finally found how to make my default backup location E:\ and the default backup a full one, but when I close FH, I am always offered only the gedcom option. When I do file>backup/restore>.... I cannot select either full or medium backup. I suspect that I have messed up the file structure big ...

Back up to external drive
I want to do a full backup of my principal FH Project to a Toshiba 64GB USB Memory Stick, but when I do File>backup/restore >Backup Options>Full backup, I am offered only the location of my small backups and no obvious way of changing it to E:Toshiba. E:Toshiba with its current contents is clearly v...

Re: Changed symbol in notes
Thanks for the suggestion, Mike. I tried cropping the original image so that I was left with just the symbol. However, when Itried to paste it into the "find" box all I got was a big fat blank. In fact, I can't paste it into anything. Nor can I find it in any of the character sets availabl...

Changed symbol in notes
The attached image read £320.7s.when I created a note to a probate event. I think the change occurred when I upgraded from V.5 to V.6, although I cannot be certain, and I have found many such examples. When I come across one such, I emend the unknown (to me) symbol to "£" - without the quo...

Re: Changing Calendars
Works a treat, Mike. Thank you. What is more, by double clicking on any value in the New Date field brings up the appropriate Property Box, so if I wanted to know why I entered a date as Julian when, for example, I knew only the year, the answer is there. Thanks again.

Non-existant Multimedia
My daughter in law has her tree on FH V.3. I have copy as a project. What I do not have are all the pictures she has added, so when I click on Media > View All Media, I get a window full of thumbnail placeholders, all crossed through. Now, I just help her with research and do not need the media and ...

Thanks Mike. That is what my memory was telling me, but it is very unreliable these days so I thought I had better ask.

Unwanted Fields
Is it possible to remove unwanted fields from the Property Box?
When I bought V.5, I gave my original V.3 to my daughter-in-law, who has just started her family research and she does not want, for example, both a christening field and a baptism field in the Details Tab.

Unrelated Individual
I have just tried to add an unrelated individual in a census entry and found that the box for adding the name is missing the 'OK', 'Cancel' and 'Help', buttons.I have AS v.2.0.0 and 64 bit Windows 7. In case it matters I have recently(since I last used AS) uninstalled McAfee Internet Security due to...

FHU Mailing List
Thanks Jane. I have changed the setting, but will try again some other time. I have since realised that I had got hold of the wrong end of the stick regarding the topic I was going to reply to so rather fortuitously I have avoided making a fool of myself.

FHU Mailing List
I changed computers recently. Messages on the list have continued to arrive as before so I assume I am still subscribed. However, today when I tried to reply to a posting, my message disappeared. I later found the address had gone from my contacts list. Do I need to add an 'L' to the address as I di...

Change to 64 bit version
I currently have the 32 bit version of AS V.2.0.0. Am I right in assuming that putting the 64 bit version on my new laptop will not affect anything already entered in FH using the 32 bit version? I know this probably sounds pathetic, but over the years I have learned never to take anything for grant...
