Unable to open file. File not found
Following some PC problems and professional help with extra backing up of the contents, I have suddenly discovered that 'the file cannot be found' in my basic Project Window. I can see that somehow the name of my project has become altered. Probably the cause? My backup both in Documents and another...

Re: Merge Two Projects
Mike, Working from your last instructions it now seems that everything is back in good order again. I have been working through every aspect of the programme that I could and have aimed to check almost every entry. Of course I found a few duplications and errors but everything now does check out aga...

Re: Merge Two Projects
Mike, I have been carefully looking through my folders and trying to understand more about them but at the moment, and in courtesy to your instruction ~ BUT DON'T DO ANYTHING UNTIL I SAY SO ~ I have indeed done nothing. I did find that it was possible to move some items out pf thier folders onto the...

Re: Merge Two Projects
I apologise for being such a nuisance and will readily withdrew at any point if you should wish. There should be five Projects in total. The other 4 have not been touched in a very long time and I presume are unchanged. Extras Clothiers is meant to be just a storage area for names that may or may no...

Merge Two Projects
Following a desktop PC breakdown needing some replacement parts I think I have caused some errors in FH. I suspect I did not realise there were problems for a while but carried on with entries etc. Once I did I found my external backup drive had duplicate copies of my whole project but I could not d...

No, I have not. This is now taking me to uncharted areas of my ignorance. I will nervously approach this foreign area.

Re: Backup Invalid
All noted Mike and again many thanks. I will be keeping the prints of this for a good while - just in case! And yes, I am very aware of the need to ensure I have separate copies as well. I have two external drives, one continually at home and another that lives at my son's house to be updated at int...

Re: Backup Invalid
Now I can understand more than I have been.. in using FILE>Backup/Restore>Restore/Backup, I clicked on Full Back Up (Entire project Folder) after FILE>Backup/Restore and before >Restore/Backup, because I presumed I should. Now I do have Connie's Family History (2) in the project folder, and also in ...

Re: Backup Invalid
Thank you Mike for your patience and explanations. I am sure my problems are related to my last post. I did think at the time that I had hopefully repaired my errors but I did not really know how and I did not have the vocabulary to explain. I then carefully included some new research and the backup...

Backup Invalid
I appear to have caused an issue with attempting a full backup. I have VERY little understanding of the IT processes. I have tried following various responses to past inquiries but every time I received the same outcome. I do not know how to post a snapshot; I did locate a list of programme shapshot...

Re: Problem with Backup
Many thanks Mike, Housekeeping duties (online at least!) completed. Your advice helped me to both consider and to rule out some possibilities. I think I have resolved the problem but I will reply to your suggestions in case I do have to trouble you again. For several hours I blundered a search throu...

Problem with Backup
For years I have always closed with a full backup but suddenly today the backup is stopping short suggesting that 15 files are not backed up. This is happening with both the projects folder on the desktop PC and the external drive where I keep a second copy. What could I be doing wrong here?

Failing to Save Media Images
Chris M, The image(s) are JPEGs saved from Ancestry.co.uk and similar. Tatewise, I have followed your instruction trail above and indeed found the image in FH. That is not where I expected to find it as I have entered many BMD certs during the past year using the Multimedia tab in the property box...

Failing to Save Media Images
Thank you for helping. No I do not get a warning message. I am not entirely sure I understand the exact meaning of 'linking to source record not individual record' but no matter for the moment because..... yes, I have used the tutorials (and also printed out the help pages associated with them for...

Failing to Save Media Images
I am a new user to AS having spent the last year learning (almost!) to enter my years of research into FH. I am self taught on all matters IT so I struggle to understand some of the processes. I decided to start with baptisms on AS hoping to find my way with the singular information and individual...

Thank you again. My son was already suggesting that I set up something similar to your system, so it was good to have your description. And thanks also for the other replies as well.

Backup / Saving?
Many thanks to all. That is a real help. Just one final question as I see that I probably did not express one part of my question clearly enough. Is there a difference in this programme between Saving and Backing Up?

Backup / Saving?
As a newby to FH as well as any other previous genealogy programme could I ask about backing up and saving? I see that the programme saves or backs up onto my hard drive, so I can leave that to carry on whether I understand the process or not. But I would also like to have a further copy on a CD ...
