An alternative to adding (for example) certificates to sources is to add them to the event using the camera button on the Facts tab.

Consolidate lists, flags and keywords

I'm not quite so convinced about types in general, the difference being that they're typically mutually exclusive... i.e. a record has a single type (in any particular category), but as many flags (or list memberships) as you like. But that's not really a reason not to consider them in terms of user...

I think it would be a pity to start a new thread and lose track of all the comments on this one. I think the reques...

As for your immediate problem, it might be worth adding the Updated Date to the records window, and sort by that, so you then have a convenient list of the records you need to worry about. Keep that safe somewhere whatever you do next. Then you can probably use Split Tree Helper with a query based o...

Sorry, of course it's too late for any advice in this case, but... My policy on this is always (in all projects I'm involved in, not just genealogy) to maintain one master copy of whatever it is, and if you want to keep a periodic snapshot, copy it all (whether it be a single file or an entire proje...

Sorry to cause so much controversy... I hadn't realised when I posted this that it only arises if there is already a child, and presumably therefore a family record.

Marriage date with no spouse not saved

It's happened to me a few times but I've only just got round to reproducing and reporting it. Usually because I just fill in the boxes in the wrong order (but there shouldn't be a 'wrong' order in a conventional dialogue box), but occasionally because of incomplete research (and after all, the beaut...

Peter, It's not about how it's implemented in the data, but how it's presented to the user. If there are arguments for using the flag mechanism (though personally I would never edit the Gedcom except in case of dire emergency), then fine, use the flag mechanism to represent list membership. It shoul...

Marriage date with no spouse not saved

Is this a bug? If I add a marriage date in the property box for someone who has no spouse recorded, it lets me enter and confirm it, but doesn't seem to store it anywhere. And if I then click Add Spouse/Partner the date disappears. This even happens if they have a child but no spouse, and therefore ...

Morning! Perhaps the reason for what you said is not so much that this forum puts a high value on compatibility, but that Calico Pie does. And to an extent I can understand that... It's always been a selling point that FH is 100% Gedcom compatible, and some people will buy it because of that, even t...

You could have an 'unmarried' flag attached to individuals that you can use to change the box in the daigram or add an icon... But do you ever really know? I recently discovered that a relation buried with her maiden name had been married and separated abroad during WWII.

Sarah, Please don't go back to lurking! This is an open forum, everyone has their own opinion, but there's no Mafia here... We all have our own perspectives and agendas. I have enjoyed a lot of your recent posts, some are spot on, some I disagree with, some about things I don't care about, some I do...

I've only just picked up on this thread, and realised that I said (or at least meant) exactly the same thing in a small part of my recent rant about usability on another topic... so Hear hear Sarah. Why have two (or more) different ways of having to think about doing essentially the same thing in di...

How do I Copy Charts to Memory stick

Anything you can 'Save As' can be saved on any storage device attached to your computer. For example, from the Diagram menu, choose Save Diagram As... and choose your favourite file format (I'd use JPEG as it will be viewable on almost anything you might later plug your memory stick into). After sel...

If you increase the Diagram Zoom then Save Diagram As (for example) JPEG using Current rather than Actual size, you get all the resolution you might want in the image.

Just to be a bit accademic for a moment, there is no absolute path. If it starts with a drive letter, that's relative to your machine... If it starts with a network machine name, that's relative to your local network, and so on. If you move a project from one machine to another, or even to somewhere...

I've been watching this thread and biting my tongue so far. Personaly I hope we don't get another major feature release too soon. My family history research is, and always will be, work in progress. I would have thought that if I set Minimum box width, Maximum box width and Standard box width all to the same value, that my boxes would all be the same width, but it doesn't seem to be the case. Have I missed something silly? Or does anyone else know how to make a diagram like this look right? htt...
