Re: Captions for photos and images
To resize my photos captions etc. I use Imagemagick via a batch file. My batch file has different options and I enable the ones I want to use at the time. It is just a matter of dragging and dropping the photo over the icon on the desktop. For example: convert.exe %1 -thumbnail x600 -bordercolor Bla...

Re: Problems getting information from relatives!
Yes some useful comments here and I have to agree with them and like others here have said the only way to get information from people is to sit with them and ask questions. But again that is not always practical as I do not want to drive a couple of hundred miles to ask one or two questions. As soo...

Problems getting information from relatives!
I am having problems getting information out of relatives and the only way is go and see them face to face. For instance I have some wedding photos and I have numbered each person and sent a paper version out and no replies. I have also uploaded them to my website and all the user has to do is write...

Re: Delete unused addresses
I have just been through a similar process and spent 3 full days over Christmas changing addresses and places. It pays to get things right from the beginning! The main reason I could not automate the process was I had items correct in address and place; the same details in both, full details in one ...

Re: V5.0.11 Running slow/freezing.
Probably your computer; if it is a windows PC it slowly get full of programs and junk. Mine is running slower and I only did a reinstall last summer! I also find antivirus software tends to slow it down when running in the background. You may have some unwanted malware as well. A good program to cle...

Thanks for the link to Ft analyser tatewise; a very interesting program. Particularly as I can not get the hang of the Family historian query method.

Re: Places and Addresses - best practice
Thanks for the info; I have been tidying up my database after installing Ft analyser and finding a few problems. I have changed 900+ Individuals address/place details to the method recommended by rodit. The only good thing about doing it was it kept me busy over the Christmas break - about 3 days so...

Nosferatu if you go for the print option you may be able to print to file or there are programs you download to 'print to pdf'. This adds an option to your printers list to print to pdf. I used to use this quite a lot but can not remember which program I used to use now.

FH freezing amp; slow.
There are a couple of free antivirus programs - Avast and AVG. I have used Avast for about 4 years as I had a problem with AVG which I used to use.
FH works without any problesm with Avast. I belive McAfee uses a lot of resorces.

Forces war records
My thoughts on the http://www.forces-war-records.co.uk/ website. 1/ General Search ( apart from medal information did not provide any more details than what I found elsewhere for free ): Preferably need forename and surname. The results return the details twice; once as name and once as initials. If...

Search for my old posts
I have a feeling there is a problem with the forum as the earliest General post I can find is 04/06/12 and the latest archived post I can find is 25/06/09. A differance of 3 years using the page buttons.

Search for my old posts
Thank you for the link Peter and that explains some missing posts but it does not help me find my old posts. It would be good as you suggested to be able to search the archived posts as well. I may have to post the same question again which defeats the object of archiving. Also why was one post with...

I am looking for a couple of old posts of mine and am using 'Original search' with my username. I have tried paging through the se...

Looks like the area of the Telegn site you want is here: http://www.telgen.co.uk/families/ there is a link to their forum. I would post a question there and see what they say.

Interesting reply tatewise; I did not know that. I should read the instructions one day!
In (1) you have missed a step - you need to select couple in the dropdown box ( You only have a choice of Individual or couple so it is quite obvious ) then the family in the next box.

Unable to install V5
I had a look through Google for mfc100.dll problems and one person had problems with AVG but most seem to think it was a 'microsoft c++ runtime' problem.
