Re: source-driven data entry for 1921 census
Thank you for your helpful comments. I was happily using Ancestral Sources but when I learned that V7 of FH included the tools for data entry that was what made me pay the £60 for upgrade. I'm disappointed to learn that 1921 has not been included. I will look at creating my own template once I get m...

source-driven data entry for 1921 census
Having recently obtained a lot of data from the 1921 census I decided to upgrade to Version 7 of FH as it includes inbuilt data entry (rather than using Ancestral Sources). I find that there is no template for the 1921 census data entry. Will this be made available?

Re: Help with V6.2 failure
Thank you for your patience. In the project window I changed the location to My Documents\Family Historian Projects (the default setting) I then compared the permission settings in folders in C:\users\Bill\Documents\ with the folders in C:\Our_Documents\ (I have a project in C:\Our_Documents\ which ...

Re: Help with V6.2 failure
Thank you Mike I hadn't tried updating my project until yesterday so I think the problem must have arisen when I changed the file location 3 weeks ago. I have tried updating the permissions as you suggested but get an error message "An error occurred while applying security information to: C:\u...

Re: Help with V6.2 failure
Yes. Following your advice in that post I moved my files to the more conventional C:\users\Bill\Documents\Family Historian Projects.
So I suppose the question is how to get FH to recognise that is where the files are now located.

Re: Help with V6.2 failure
I've been looking at the forums to try and see if anyone had the problem I am having and this seems to be similar. However the replies are long and complex so please forgive me for starting at the beginning. When I try to add anything to my project I get the following error message:- Failed to gener...

Re: error creating log file folder in Ancestral Sources
I created the folder manually in the location it was expected to be and after adjusting the security settings it appears to have worked in FH. I will read the getting started notes and practise on the sample project.
Many thanks for your help.
Bill

Re: error creating log file folder in Ancestral Sources
Thank you for your prompt reply. In my original post you can see that the error message states that access is denied to C\users\Bill\Documents\Ancestral Sources. This folder does not exist when I check in file explorer. My Family History Projects folder is located in C:\Our_Documents\Family Historia...

I have loaded the Ancestral Sources plugin successfully but cannot use it as I get the error message:
Error: creating log file folder, Ancestral Sources can not start until this error is corrected. Error: Access to the path 'C\users\Bill\Documents\Ancestral Sources' is denied.

Thanks for that Mike. I have done as you suggested and it has partially worked. As you will see from the screenshot. Some files have produced thumbnails but most have not. Any thoughts?

Re: FH and windows 10
Thanks for all your helpful comments. I took my old PC drive back to Currys and (as you probably know) nothing is ever fully deleted from a drive and I was able to get my missing .ged file back. I now have Family Historian working with all my data files. However I don't have my media files properly ...

Re: FH and windows 10
Hi Mike Thank you for your continued support. Unfortunately I have cleared all files from my old computer. As I said in a previous post, everything seemed to be working well with the new PC so I prepared the old one for passing on. I'm going to seek help from Currys where I bought the PC as it's not...

Re: FH and windows 10
Thank you both David and Mike. Here is where I'm at. 1. When I transferred from my old PC to the new one I carefully followed the Migration Guide and for a couple of weeks it all went well with FH. I was even able to open my project a couple of days ago, although I don't know how and have not been a...

Re: FH and windows 10
Hi Mike Thanks very much for your reply. You are right that Windows 10 is very similar to Windows 7 but I made the mistake of not fully understanding how Onedrive works when I first got my PC and have got myself into a mess with files. However I am slowly getting that sorted and is not the subject f...

FH and windows 10
I have recently bought a new PC which has updated me from Windows 7 to Windows 10. My Family Historian is version 6. I have found Windows 10 to be extremely challenging with all sorts of things, particularly the awful onedrive which seems to take over and leave me totally confused about where my fil...

Location of Places on Maps
I have recently upgraded from FH v4 to v6.2. The maps window in v6 is new to me and all my places have been automatically geocoded. However I'm finding that a large number of my places (mainly in Scotland) are shown to be in USA. I have checked my PC location (which is UK) and in the map window pref...

Re: Unrecognised file format
Hi Mike
Apologies for posting in the wrong place. Yes it was sent to me from someone else, so I will have to get them to follow your instructions. And yes I have been thinking to upgrading to v6 so this might just be the encouragement to do so!

Re: Upgrading to Windows 10
Hi Nick I repeated the restore and this time called the project Black & Riach (adding the &). It was not listed in the project window. However in the project window I clicked on "new project" and brought it in that way. All seems to be ok except my multimedia files are missing. Bill
