Re: Adding Media files.

I know methods evolve due to the possibilities available but I'm getting more curious re time frames and versions. I bought FH6 near EOL leaving FH7 as my main exposure. I believe I've seen FH Auto Sourcing demonstrated in early videos by Jane Taubman but may be incorrect there. I have also heard a...

Re: Adding Media files.

For the documents that AS doesn't handle for me - for example gravestones, obituaries, etc. - I create the fact first - let's say a burial fact based on an obituary. Then with that fact selected in the property box, I click the "Add Citation" in the sources box at the bottom of the screen...

This has been on the Wish List for a long time. If you haven't already done so, you could vote for it.

Re: Search and delete duplicate Events?

Welcome to the FHUG forums.

One way to do it is to download the plugin called Find Duplicate Facts. This will create a result set from which you can delete the facts that you no longer wish to keep.

Re: Marriage Input Screen lacks {DateREGISTERED}

What awful news... I'll be the first to say, however, that while in general I refuse to pay a yearly subscription for software, in the case of AS, I would be willing to do so if it meant you could keep the software in development. It's such a boon for my workflow. That said, I realize you may not g...

Re: AS death and burial input screens.. edit?

The main issue though is that there isn't an auto-text template built into AS for the USA State Death certificate For a long time there was not one death certificate for the USA. Every state had its own unique death certificate with different information than other states. At some point, I think it...

Re: Emigration to or from?

I was just responding to the OP who said. I, personally, tend to think of them the other way around. I'm interested in where people emigrate to, and immigrate from. I wasn't meaning that you were confused, I just thought the OP might be confused. I was probably not understanding what they meant. I d...

Re: Emigration to or from?

There really shouldn't be any confusion. The words have had those meaning for many many years. Emigration Etymology. From Latin emigratus, past participle of emigrare (“to move away, remove, depart from a place”), from e (“out”) + migrare (“to move, remove, depart”). Immigration Etymology. From Lati...

The most recent proposal under discussion would not subscribe you to anything except a topic you created. Would that be a problem? Edited to add: If you really don't want any notifications go here and turn them all off: image.png I was just curious. Since I see no benefit to being subscribed to a t...

Re: Changes to notification defaults

I can additionally configure on a forum-by-forum basis the option to automatically subscribe all authors by default to new topics (topics they create); they can turn this off before posting. As before, the settings for how individuals receive notifications would be unchanged. I hate to beat a dead ...

Re: Changes to notification defaults

I must be missing something. Doesn't subscribing to a topic mean you will get notified by email of replies? Maybe! It depends on your settings here: https://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/ucp.php?i=ucp_notifications&mode=notification_options Notifications are listed when you click Notifications with the...

Agree - this is a forum, not a mailing list. I've no intention of turning on emails for people who don't want them (like me). Just asking if theres any support for defaulting to subscribing people to topics they create. I must be missing something. Doesn't subscribing to a topic mean you will get n...

Re: Changes to notification defaults

I don't like the idea of automatically being opted-in to anything. If I want to be notified I will opt-in. This would include the notifications at the top by my name. I shouldn't have to opt-out.

Re: Check For Unlinked Media (FH7) - new plugin that can search in all locations

Regarding John's postings, I believe that Windows is case agnostic. I've just changed a Media record filename similar to his illustrations to THE_MUNROS.JPG FH is perfectly happy with that even though the actual filename is still The_Munros.jpg However, this new plugin incorrectly lists it as unlin...

Re: Check For Unlinked Media (FH7) - new plugin that can search in all locations

Looking at this in the media window it shows it is linked once. Just to clarify and avoid any misunderstanding, the Links 1 highlighted is the number of links to the Media record from other records (Source record in this case) and not the number of links to Media files. So in this context the Links...

Curious - what happens if you choose the Selected Folder option and navigate to that folder? Do you still see the unlinked file? Could you also select the Full File Path display option so we can see the full file path, please. Can you also post the File Explorer view of that folder to confirm there...

Re: Check For Unlinked Media (FH7) - new plugin that can search in all locations

Mark, I ran the plugin and have an oddity. With the Jane's plugin, I have no files listed as unlinked. With this plugin I have one. image1.jpg image2.jpg Looking at this in the media window it shows it is linked once. image3.jpg It is linked to a Source along with 16 other images in the same folder....

Re: Check For Possible Duplicate Media (FH7) plugin - first prototype

Thanks for the explanation Mark. I always store images of census pages in a folder for the head of the household. The file name has the head of household's name in it. If there is more than one household on the same census page then I save it twice, one in each head of households folder. Hence multi...
