Re: Map Window Location search field question

Thanks everyone for the replies. Very strange. I tried it at least 10 times yesterday over the course of an hour and kept getting the weird lists. Today, everything is fine. I get results as Mike describes. Not sure what the problem was yesterday.

Thanks!

Bob,

Good to know I'm not alone. Maybe someone else will be able to explain the lists.

Thanks,

I think I may have said it poorly, your description is better. This is what happens for me even if I first use the slider bar. Same thing happens if I first use the scroll wheel.

Map Window Location search field question

When I enter something in the Location field on the right side of the map window and then click on the search button (green button with white arrow), I get strange lists of locations to choose from. If I enter New York and click on the button, my list has 12 entries. All of them say "New York, ...

Re: Change map locator symbol

I then moved the slider bar up & down and the cross hair stayed in the correct position at all zoom levels. Then I placed my mouse cursor inside the Map window and rotated the scroll wheel back & forth. The Map display zoomed in & out with the cross hair staying on the correct location ...

Re: New User - issues importing to FH from Ancestry.com

Barb,

If you do want to look at the log files, in Windows they are in the Log Files folder within your project folder.

example: C:\My Documents\FH\project_name\project_name.fh_data\Log Files

Re: Grave and memorial inscriptions

One query, which hopefully BillH will be able to answer - do I have to make a separate entry for each person mentioned on the gravestone? Chris, I have not created any new entries on Bilion Graves. I believe you would have to have a separate entry for each person. On Find a Grave you don't have to ...

Phil, My project folder is about 3.9 GB in size of which about 2.9 GB is media. All together I have about 3000 media in the project. FH has no problems opening quickly. Some of the media is smaller in size (census images, birth certificate images, etc.), but I do have a lot of photos taken with my c...

Re: Question on registration info in Help > About

I see I'm not the only one that got confused. :D I too have no option to register, but I'm sure I registered in the past. I was a bit confused over being registered and being licensed. I thought maybe there was a way to tell if you were licensed or not, but I guess the only way is to try to run a pl...

In her posting 16599|Transfer downloaded Version 6 to previously used computer Sheila has a screen print showing that FH is registered to her. image1.jpg I looked at my Help and it doesn't show that it is registered to me. image2.jpg I am able to run plugins just fine. Re: Places and Addresses when importing from TMG

The solution either involves putting address & place details together as above for granular mapping, or adding some duplication from the Place into the Address to make it unique. In this situation what I do is add enough information to the address so that I can tell the two addresses apart in t...

I just want to thank everyone that helped me try to find out more about where Ingvald died. If I ever do find out what happened...

Brian, Thanks for the reply. Hadn't thought of Lloyds Register. I will have to poke around and see if I can find anything. Yes, Iversen is very common in Norway... kind of like Smith in the USA. All sons of anyone named Iver would have that name as well as any daughters if Iver lived in a large city...

Don, I saw that, but convinced myself that maybe in the early 1900's ships could have gone into Lake Macquarie which is connected to the ocean. If they went up to the north end of the lake they would only be a couple km from Cardiff. I thought maybe that is where he drowned. Probably wishful thinkin...

Re: Ingvald Marius Iversen

Cardiff Roads suggests to me that he was drowned at sea and not 'in Cardiff'. There may or may not be a death registered at sea but it seems unlikely to be in the GRO indexes as he was a foriegn national. Anne Anne, Thanks for the reply. The death notice in the Bergen paper said "Bay Roads, Ca...

I just found who I think may be the right person on a crew list document on Ancestry.com. The collection on Ancestry is called "New South Wales, Australia, Registers of Seamen, 1859-1936". The document is "Registers of Discharged Seamen, 1903-1907". There is an entry for I. Ivers...

Re: Ingvald Marius Iversen

Mike, Thanks for searching. I do not think this is him. Ingvald was born in Bergen, Norway, would have been 21 in 1911, and definitely was not named Charles. I was wondering if there is any record anywhere in the UK of ship crew lists that might include him? I am not sure if he was on a Norwegian fl...
