Re: Media link information stored where?

Thanks, this looks fine! Do you really understand Norwegian? Jan, No I don't really understand Norwegian. I am 50% Norwegian so I wish I did. My mother's grand parents came from Norway. I can remember a few words like baptism, birth, marriage, and death, but that is about all. Everything in the tem...

Re: Media link information stored where?

Mike, I don't use the UK templates as I haven't been able to connect my family back to England/UK. See my post in the Research forum on Nicholas Henshaw. I'm pretty sure he came from England, probably around 1720, but I can't prove it. I will cleanse the templates and send them to you. I think to be...

Re: Media link information stored where?

Mike, It is starting to come back to me. I looked at all my templates that I am using in AS and they all have the year and other info that I use that others probably don't want. Last time I sent the templates to you and if I recall correctly you modified all the REF ID's before putting them on the s...

Re: Media link information stored where?

Mike, I see. if Jan doesn't enter a place then her template would result in the {YEAR} and {REF} being next to each other which would result in the 1910 1910 duplication she is seeing. I've never seen this duplication as I don't include {REF} in my title template. The way that I use the TITLE and RE...

Re: Media link information stored where?

Jan, It looked like those additional fields are not often used although I came across some where Religious Community and Citizenship were filled in. I will add the Returned Norwegian-American fields at the end of the template as they seem to be even more rare. Does that seem OK to you? As for the ti...

Re: Media link information stored where?

Jan, Sorry it took so long to get back to you, it has been very hectic here over the holidays. I created a template based on what the Digital Archives search results look like today. I have attached it to this thread. If it has any problems, I can make updates so let me know. If it looks OK to you I...

Re: Media link information stored where?

Hi Jan, I replied to you by private email but I'll repeat some of what I said here. As for my templates for Norway, I created them just to capture the information I could, but they are probably not the best. For the US and state census templates that I created, I used the actual census forms as a ba...

Re: Grave and memorial inscriptions

Wilfreda99, Just my personal opinion, but I would recommend FindAGrave as probably the best such site to use. It has a global audience and a very large number of graves already entered and many more being added all the time. I use FindAGrave all the time without going through either Ancestry or Fami...

Re: Grave and memorial inscriptions

FindaGrave is an American site and appears to have close connections to the LSD website and Search engine. FindAGrave was recently purchased by Ancestry.com which has no connection with the LDS church other than the fact that the founders were (or are) members of the church. The LDS church doesn't ...

Re: Programme changes from Ancestry.co.uk to Ancestry.com

Mike,

I totally agree that there are other issues with the Ancestry interface. I've never understood the need to have two birthday fields either. I do think that the birth date field issue is a Firefox issue as it doesn't occur in any other browser I've tried.

Re: Programme changes from Ancestry.co.uk to Ancestry.com

4. Highlighting and typing over a birthdate doesn’t work. One has to delete it before entering new date. Mike, Are you by any chance using Firefox? I had this same problem when using Firefox. This same problem doesn't occur for me using Google Chrome or Internet Explorer. This leads me to believe i...

Re: Private Individuals

Mike,

No problem. My tree is also privatized and it works just fine. All the tree does is to help figure out who the shared ancestors are. Dates and facts can help you determine who that common ancestor is, but are not absolutely necessary.

Re: Installing version 2 on new laptop

You do not need to install all the previous releases. If your Version 5 was an upgrade then all you need to do is install Version 5 and have the Version 4 license key and the Version 5 license key. See how_to:reinstall_family_historian|> Family Historian Installation Advice in the Knowledge Base for...

Re: change settings so dates are circa instead of cal

Perhaps, reverting to Irene's original question, the message is that although Ancestral Sources doesn't currently offer c. for dates derived from censuses it would be helpful if it gave the user the full range of options to choose from. I would agree with Lorna that it would be nice if AS allowed u...

Where is this small square? I don't see one next to the subject title in the list.

Re: posts show as unread even after viewing them

I figured out what was going on. I was going to the post just to force it to be marked as read... I wasn't actually reading the post. What I failed to recognize was that they were multi page posts and I wasn't going to the last page.

Similar symptom, but I'm not sure the issue is the same. I can leave FHUG and go back and the posts are still showing as unread. I am using the lastest Chrome on Windows 10.

Is anyone else having this problem? After viewing a post and going back to the list of posts they are still showing as unread. I am signed into the forum.

Re: how to remove alternate names with Clean Unwanted Fields

Mike,

Not sure on this one. I don't see myself using this very often. Usually when I use the plugin I am deleting hundreds or even thousands of items so having only the first 9 of each type wouldn't really tell me much. Not sure if others would find it useful or not.

Re: how to remove alternate names with Clean Unwanted Fields

Mike,

Thanks for the quick fix. I wanted to get rid of all the alternate names and keep just the primary name. I added INDI.NAME[2] thru INDI.NAME[10] which would cover the most alternate names any individual had. This new version of the plugin worked great.

Thanks!
