What is the Purpose of Plugins?
I use Family Historian to record my family tree research. I confess that I am not willing or able to spend time learning to program so that I can write plugins to carry out functions that should be in Family Historian. Although I have downloaded a couple of plugins (eg the timeline one and the map p...

FH CD
Since upgrading to V5 I get a message 'Internet Explorer restricted this Webpage from running scripts or ActiveX controls' when I play back the CD. This happens on any PC with XP, Vista and Win7 with several versions of IE. Older copies of the CD from V4 have no problem. Is there a cure please? ID:6...

Timeline chart
After spending a good half hour trying to generate a Timeline and just producing a blank picture I discovered that I had to have a live Internet connection for this to work. Could you please explain in fairly simple terms why this is. Also how do I save the timeline picture for later use in document...

You could try changing the screen resolution on the laptop to fill the TV screen. It worked for me!!

Too right! I don't use queries as I don't understand them or how to write them.

Is there anything to prevent us scanning the form into FH and allowing our descendants to beat the 100 year rule?

Have a look at the query downloads on this site. 'Census-The Missing Years-1911' should do the trick.

No Fan Chart Available, which is next best ? .
Just a caution - use a copy of your FH gedcom. I once made the mistake of using my live file and corrupted it whilst loading into another program. Thank heavens for backups][oops]

As another option you could download one of the free genealogy programs (such as Legacy), import your gedcom into that and print off a fan chart.

I have just come across the surname BRUCEANGE-DIGBY and I'm at a loss as to the pronunciation of BRUCEANGE. So far I have been offered 'BRUCE ANGE' and 'BREW CHAIN'. Could anyone please offer enlightenment or info regarding its origin? Thanks

Files on two computers
I have got into the habit of copying my .ged file to a usb memory stick after any session on either desktop or laptop. My first task when starting another session on either is to copy the .ged back to whichever. That way I have a current file on at least one computer and the memory stick as well. It...

Narrative report - multimedia sources
I have the same problem with ancestor narrative reports - I believe that its definately a memory problem. If I reduce the size of the original pictures the problem seems to fix itself. Mind you I am using an old P2 laptop with only 128Mb - roll on Christmas!!

That's very good - almost exactly what I am looking for. The trouble is I havn't got the foggiest idea how you did it. I wouldn't even know where to start. Tinkering with the program is beyond me. I'll just keep on using my paper To Do list and FH for recording the tree. That's all I need the progra...

To upgrade or not?
I quite agree with Alan, the points that he has raised are valid ones. I have started using projects as I have one main tree with 2500 individuals, but I also have several smaller trees that I am researching that may or may not prove to be relations (such as others living in the same area with the s...

Performance Issue?
Well, I installed V4 to the old laptop last night - it is useable. I do get a lot of disk activity for about 10 mins once the program has started which realy slows things down, but after that its not so bad. I haven't tried to generate a CD yet - thats for the weekend. I , like many others I suspect...
