Re: Right click options
Well, I've learnt some useful things here! The keyboard shortcut is helpful, Helen. And thank you, Vyger, for pointing out a quicker way to do it, but it would be even nicer to right click! Certainly I have lots of Flags/Icons so being able to use right click there would be very useful. Thank you bo...

Re: Right click options
As a user who works almost exclusively with diagrams, I'd really love to be able to right click on a diagram box to add to a Named List. As it is I first have to double click on the box to open the Property Box, select Go To Record, then go to the Records window where the record is highlighted, and ...

Re: Julian calendar dates at end of a century
Sorry for the confusion everyone. Yes, I am I suppose using the Gregorian calendar, but the date I was concerned about was recorded under the Julian calendar. I searched the User Group before posting, but didn't find the useful paragraph Lorna quoted. I think I was trying to enter 1599/1600 to indic...

Julian calendar dates at end of a century
I'm happily entering BMD dates for my ancestors in the 1500s, carefully watching out for dates at the beginning of a year and using the double dating system. I've just come across a baptism on 17 Feb 1599, but I can't find a way to indicate that this is really 1600. Do I have to use a Date Phrase?

Re: Relationships
Thank you, Arthur and Sarah, for your efforts! I have an expression =IsAncestorOf(%INDI%,Field(FileRoot(),'INDI.~FATH>')) which produces a diagram icon for direct paternal ancestors (and a corresponding one for maternal). I think I knew before I asked that finding an expression for ALL paternal rela...

Re: Relationships
I'm pleased with this new ability to display the relationship to root at the top of the Property Box. Now I'm wondering, is there any way to distinguish paternal/maternal lines as well? That would be such a help, especialy when there are common names on both sides.

Re: Media insert failed
Thank you for clarifying the issue Mike. I try to be careful to check the dates of reports I read, but obviously slipped up there. I did take on board that a registry change was involved, but I forgot FH was 32-bit. Anyway, a brand new Windows 11 PC is on the way, and I shall take my time setting it...

Re: Media insert failed
Tatewise, the full path/file name of all the quoted examples is identical. They all come from the same Dropbox folder and are copied into the FH Media folder, no sub folders. It has to be a path length issue that somehow arose overnight; I had made no changes. ColeValleyGirl, I upgraded to 7.0.14 af...

Further experimentation suggests that it is indeed a file path length issue. Death MORRISH Susan Western Times 21 August 1931.jpg will not download. Re: Media insert failed
No, FH always alerts you to that possibility by telling you it will save it as FileName(2). These were images freshly downloaded from FindMyPast. My routine is to find the record, download the image to a holding folder in Dropbox, immediately enter the data and attach the image. All images are copie...

Media insert failed
Yesterday I attempted to add a Media file to a Source Record, following a routine I have performed thousands of times before. This time I got the message "Media insert failed. Unable to copy file." I'm aware that a common reason for this failure is overlong file paths, and this has been ni...

Missing Flags
Long ago I customised my Property Box with a tab called Flags. As I work almost exclusively from diagrams, icons indicating various bits of information are very important. Most of the icons are controlled by Expressions, but some are controlled by Flags. When I need one, I go to the Flag Tab, tick t...

Re: Editing sources
Roger W, all my ancestors are from Devon and I can tell you it is well worth joining the Devon FHS. It only costs £12 for a year, they have lots of parish and other records not available elsewhere and a very active and supportive membership. Incidentally, my mother was a Morrish, but they were from ...

Re: Weird Tab behaviour
I've noticed this behaviour recently and it is very annoying. When entering Birth, Baptism and Death facts manually on the facts tab, I would normally enter the Date, tab to Age, tab to Place, just two keystrokes. Now I enter the Date, tab, and the highlight has gone up to the Fact. Tab again, back ...

Re: Add Historical details to narrative report
Sorry Mike, I think I was misunderstanding something here. These Historical Facts would be arranged in date order, as would the Sour...

Re: Add Historical details to narrative report
Maureen, yes, that will work, but you will have to re-enter or Copy & Paste those Historical Events to each person that lived through them. Furthermore, if you wish to update one of those Historical Events to add or correct some details, it will involve finding and repeating that update in ever...

Re: Add Historical details to narrative report
I was intrigued by the idea of a Dummy individual to hold historical records and immediately set one up. I should note that Narrative Reports are only of passing interest to me but I'm really keen to set individuals in an historical context. Having created a source for a historical event and added i...

Presumably the same would apply to a Removal Order, from one Parish to another under the Poor Laws? I was surprised to find no such fact exists.

Re: One Name Studies
On the other hand, when I started to research my maiden name, WAYCOTT, as an ONS, I quickly found that it was an anomoly which did not exist before about 1750 and seems to have arisen spontaneously in different areas of south Devon, seemingly as a result of the local accent saying the much more comm...
