I found out via a pop up message when I opened FH at about 4.30 pm today. Must say I was quite surprised as I had not heard anything on here at the time.

Re: Ancestry DNA recalculations
I have pretty much ignored the ethnicity up to now. The new version of it is even worse than before so I shall just continue to ignore it! They claimed they were now able to distinguish between England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland but they removed all my Irish (which I know I have) and replaced it a...

Re: Ancestry Changes
Although I am content to let the 6 and 7cM matches go, I have found some that have proved useful. I have worked through and established 'paper' connections which I would never otherwise have found and some have been 'brick wall breakers'. The paper records establish that there is a connection BUT is...

Re: Ancestry Changes
I did a run through of just 6 to 8cM matches today. I searched for surname and area for the majority of my family names. In fact there were not too many results for less common names and I left a note of the result on each of them. I didn't bother with common names ... searching for Brown in Lancash...

Re: Private Trees
Today, having collected a big Data set of PRs about one name (Rusby) I started working them up into mini trees to see how they fit together. Having reached a conclusion about a group of them in the early 1700s, with PR and grave inscription evidence I thought I'd see what conclusion others had come ...

Re: My Father in 1939 register
People who were already part of the War effort tend not to appear on the 1939 Register. I know 15 sounds a bit young for that but it is just possible that he was maybe in training at the time.

Re: Are English parish record images online?
For Lincolnshire have you tried Lincstothepast.com? It is the Lincolnshire Archives website and has made images available free for years. Granted it is very fiddly to use and FindmyPast has all the images anyway, but on subscription. On FindmyPast it is best to use the A to Z of record sets > Lincol...

Re: Is it safe to delete very old Snapshots?
Sorry for the delay! Mike, my settings are exactly as your image shows. I have never altered anything in there. Also, while I do have several projects, I have never renamed any of them. I didn't really know anything about snapshots (except through reading about how they can be used on this forum). I...

Re: Is it safe to delete very old Snapshots?
All done. I deleted 21 snapshots from one of my Projects and 42 from another! The other Projects did not have so many.

Re: Is it safe to delete very old Snapshots?
Thanks Lorna. I have no idea why they are there. I do have several Projects but have certainly used them all within the last year or so. I'll delete the old ones. Thanks

Is it safe to delete very old Snapshots?
I have noticed that I have quite a long list of snapshots in my FH projects. For some strange reason there are a lot from 2016. Is it safe to delete those old ones? I would like to do so because, added together, they are quite large. I save my Projects to a free Dropbox account (and three other plac...

Re: GRO Death Index now upto 2017
It doesn't include those years because they weren't digitsed in the Dove project. Think they got as far as 1957 and stopped. The later ones were always digitised, hence the gap. Unfortunately the date of birth is not given in those later ones on the GRO website, only the year.

Hmmm .. that'll be why the site gave me 'Whoops error 500' notices all afternoon just as I was on a roll with some research. Incredibly frustrating for those of us who have paid. I had to give up and do housework!!!

Re: Census entry if away from home
I have quite a number of instances of children or young people recorded both with their parents AND somewhere else eg, grandparent, aunt, cousin or as a servant. I also have a wonderful 1911 census where all the numerous children are recorded at the parents home even though some of the have already ...

Thanks for the suggestions. This is something that has only just started and I've been using this iPad in the same way for a couple of years. I did wonder if it was something to do with the recent move?

Can't stay signed in
For the last 2 weeks or so, I have had to sign in every time I come to FHUG. I never used to have to do this! I'm using an iPad and do tick the Remember me box each time.

Re: Everyone v All Relatives chart
I just made today a one page PDF following the instructions in Knowledge Base. It worked a treat even though I use a different PDF application (Primo PDF). I had never tried it before because I wrongly assumed it would be barely legible, which is not the case!

Re: Ancestry, Find My Past or My Heritage?
As I understand it, hints do not come from some Ancestry (or other site) algorithms but are produced by the number of subscribers who attach them to their trees. There are many, many times when I have gone and easily found the record I need but it has not been produced as a hint because no one else ...
