Re: The Parameter is incorrect when attempting Backup

Did you make it clear to CP that you get the Parameter error message even BEFORE the Enter Backup File Name dialogue appears? Did you explain that the same Tools > Preferences > Backup settings work for other Projects? I don't understand how Media path length can be involved before the Save has been...

Re: error while starting FH7.0.22 (program close)

Jan, with problems like this it is better to post a screenshot instead of trying to describe in words. That would be especially helpful because it seems that English is not your first language. In simple terms, the more text you include in the Project the larger it will be, but text is quite compact...

Re: Exporting from FH on windows to FTM2019 on a Mac

The Sandra’s Tree FTM UTF8.ged GEDCOM file has not been corrupted and should stay where it is. It has been imported perfectly to FTM to create the Sandra’s Tree FTM UTF8.ftm FTM tree. The only things missing are all the media files exported from FH. They are not embedded in the GEDCOM file. They are...

Re: error while starting FH7.0.22 (program close)

Jan, that GEDCOM size creates a very large Project, especially if there are many media files. I have never seen one that big. It may simply be too big for FH which is a 32K program and so is limited on memory address space. I suggest you ask Calico Pie to investigate your problem via their online Su...

Yes, the Knowledge Base article that Brian referred to suggests much the same with slightly different expressions and gives a full explanation of why the use of the standard Census Event is recommended.

Re: error while starting FH7.0.22 (program close)

I am sorry you are having problems again Jan. Early in January, you posted a similar problem: 20132|FH 7 Dont work anymore But the discussion just stopped without reaching a solution. Did you fix that problem somehow? Has FH V7 been working correctly during January and February, but started going wr...

Re: Named List programmable access

Without prejudicing what CP may implement, I think each Named List should become a new record type. They currently use a custom _LIST tag in the Header record. So the new Named List record type could be represented in GEDCOM as 0 @L9@ _LIST It would have a TEXT tag for the Named List Note and other ...

Re: Adding a "remembrance" note about a person

When using the Individual Summary Report (ISR) option the Sentence Template definition is irrelevant. The fact local Note text will be interleaved with the other Event/Attribute fact details. Bob, perhaps you've customised the ISR to only include a small subset of Event/Attribute facts including Bio...

Re: Exporting from FH on windows to FTM2019 on a Mac

Did the media image files appear in the OneDrive folder on the Mac alongside the GEDCOM you imported to FTM? With 800 image files, it will take a while for them all to migrate from the laptop to the Mac. What is the 'new file path' you say the FTM Media folder is showing? It should be very similar t...

Re: Better ways to find where records are used

FH V3 has a prehistoric Media Window with a pane with columns Links and Notes and Flags but that is all.
The Media Property Box only has Main and All tabs.
So the modern Links tabs can't have existed before FH V4.

Re: Better ways to find where records are used

I've added Media Window > Links tab but the list of Links only leads to the record as you confirm.
The Detail column only seems to list facts but does not allow specific fields to be opened.

Named List programmable access

Problem: Currently, there are no data references or functions that access Named Lists apart from the three functions =HasNoteInList(...), =IsInList(...) and =IsLinkedFromList(...) which only return a boolean result. There are no programmable mechanisms for automatically adding records to a list, re...

Re: Better ways to find where records are used

However, this only lists the host records where the chosen record is used and not the specific field(s). So the user must search further and ...

Re: Better ways to find where records are used

I intend to produce an updated proposed wording for a Wish List entry soon. One feature that has not been mentioned, and I overlooked in my OP, is Named Lists . Should a Where Used comprehensive Result Set include members of Named Lists and their Notes ? Those entries are rather similar to record li...

Re: Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings 3.6 giving errors

Gary, I suggest you try Colin's advice and use a Windows path for the Backup Folder. I am still mystified by the Delete File : WARNING. That is not helped by your screenshots which still do not show the Backup tab at the point of the message. I would expect the Settings File: to show Family Historia...

Re: Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings 3.6 giving errors

Gary, you did not say so, but I guess you are performing a Restore operation from your Backup Folder to the Settings Path: C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\... The dialogue above the WARNING Message will show the full path and file details. ( Error Messages will be in red. ) It is warning that a file in yo...

Re: Better ways to find where records are used

As often seems to happen in such threads, we now have several opposing points of view. 1) Buttons versus right-click. 2) For and against Property Box right-click. That does not make it easy to compose a Wish List proposal that satisfies everyone. Unless I omit all the suggested solutions and just as...

Yes, I suppose so, I just heard it. :D Whereabouts in the Property Box would a right-click be allowed?
e.g. Only in the pale grey area next to a toolbar, or any grey background area, or what?

Re: Better ways to find where records are used

Rather than adding extra buttons and therefore clutter to the UI I do favour the right click ' where used ' approach which could be globally applied across Sources, Repositories, Media, Places and hopefully Addresses at some future point. How would that work for each Property Box which has no right...

Re: Where does FH store its diagram icon files?

Changing anything in the C:\ProgramData\Calico Pie\Family Historian\ directory whether directly or via FH customisations warrants preserving via one of the Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings plugins. FH Project Backups do not save those settings nor the Windows Registry customisations. See...
