Re: Exporting from FH on windows to FTM2019 on a Mac

I have just searched online and it looks like FTM has a repair broken links feature similar to FH. So simply use the Export Gedcom File plugin and import the GEDCOM from the ...\Public\Export\ folder into FTM. Then use the Media > Find Missing Media... command and Select All and then Search to repai...

Re: Exporting from FH on windows to FTM2019 on a Mac

Mark, the problem of migrating to FTM is fundamentally a file path issue just as it would be with FH. It does not need me to run FTM to fix that problem. However, my plugin Help & Advice has no instructions for importing the exported GEDCOM into FTM. That is the only feedback that I need from an...

Re: Exporting from FH on windows to FTM2019 on a Mac

I have to admit that yesterday I was a little economical with the truth. :o My objective was to clarify the export process involving the ...\Public\Export\ folder. However, in your case, there is both an export process and a migration process to another (Mac) machine. Let me explain the complication...

Re: Exporting from FH on windows to FTM2019 on a Mac

I suspect you are not migrating the appropriate files to FTM. The following assumes you have used the default plugin settings. The exported GEDCOM and media files on the Windows 11 laptop should be somewhere in the folder: OneDrive\Sandra-Personal\Documents\Family Historian Projects\Sandra's Tree\Pu...

Re: Check For Unlinked Media (FH7) - new plugin that can search in all locations

John, I think Gary explained that.
He keeps supporting documentation in the same structure as the media files, which are all outside the Project.
So sorting by file type allows image files that should be linked to be differentiated from supporting documents that should not be linked.

In the ... > Export > GEDCOM File... dialogue, under Facts & Notes did you tick Convert notes to plain text?
If so then it explains what happened.
Next time untick that option.

AS Census Source Convert is not designed for that, as I explained in my first reply.

Please update the FH Version shown in your Profile on the right of your postings.
Click your username lillylp, navigate to Edit Profile, set Family Historian to V7, then scroll down to SUBMIT.

Re: Log folder error message

When you set up AS it creates an Ancestral Sources folder usually in the Documents folder. That holds the three folders Backups, Logs and Settings as shown below. Can you find those on your PC? It is that ...Documents\Ancestral Sources\Log folder that AS cannot access and cannot create a new one. im...

Re: IMPORTING FROM TRANSCRIBED CENSUS DATA

Welcome to the FHUG Louis. I have moved your question from the Importing forum to the FH General Usage forum, because the Importing forum is for importing a whole Project from another genealogy program. The AS Source Convert feature is for converting existing AS created generic Source Citations into...

Re: Batch change media image extensions

In the Export Gedcom File plugin, I've only used the Lua IM Digital Imaging Toolkit library module to convert image files (mainly JPEG, JPG, PNG & TIFF) to image files (mainly JPEG & JPG). See https://www.tecgraf.puc-rio.br/im/ that says it only supports BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG, TIFF and AVI. So...

Re: Custom Facts

Yes, I have an ancestor whose Birth Certificate gives an odd street address. On inquiring at the local library, that was a pseudo-address for a Workhouse. It later became an NHS Infirmary/Hospital and the NHS archive has full records of my ancestor's birth, including admittance of his mother, birth ...

Re: Batch change media image extensions

In light of recent discussions, I have had a radical rethink. I've realised that sometimes the plugin may not even fulfil its own promise to avoid FH broken links. For example: If a Census record page holds several relevant households the user may prefer a separate Media record File link for each ho...

Re: Exporting All relatives plus indirect relatives

IMO it is easier to use the =RelationPool(%INDI%) function in a Query. Alternatively, run the Query > Relatives & Relationships > Search For Orphans and select Individuals with the Pool number for the family group and add them to a Named List . Are there any Fact Witnesses that also need to be i...

There are several sources of information for importing from TMG. See the CP page Importing from The Master Genealogist especially Fact Types and Custom Facts . There are import options that affect how Fact Type Tags are handled and possibly merged. e.g. It is advisable to merge various custom Census...

The Fact TYPE Descriptor is a longstanding GEDCOM feature but is not very well supported by FH.
Some other products support it far better.
See and Vote for Wish List Ref 559 Fact Descriptor for Civil Union, two Place Travel, Preferred Occupation, etc.

Well remembered Jean. I did have a look through my old plugins but did not spot that one.

So try Sources List for Selected Individuals Version 0.4 Date 09 Feb 2023.

When selecting Individuals use the Named Lists tab to select from a list.

Re: Query - all sources associated with a list of individuals

Dave, that is one of those extremely difficult relationships to analyse. The fundamental problem is that they form a 'Many to Many' relationship that is complex for a Query to resolve. Firstly, Source Citations can be linked to Individual records or Family records as a whole as well as to specific F...

There seem to be many useful features removed from Windows 11.

On Windows 11 try using Task View to show all windows on the same screen. The Task View icon looks like two overlapping squares—one white and one grey—and you'll find it on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. This displays all windows on a single screen and is the simplest way to see all open w...
