Re: Exporting a portion of a database complete with source media

That question poses several other questions... What is 'their program' because not all programs handle GEDCOM as successfully as they should? Do your Source Records use Source Templates? If so then few other programs will recognise them. Do your Media use Face/Detail Frames to display a portion of t...

Re: Handling Data Migration - Emmanuel Katto

I've moved this to the Installing, Migrating & Upgrading forum which is more appropriate. It would be wise to make a backup of your Project(s) either using the FH File > Backup/Restore > Full Backup command or some other method. If you have FH V5 or later then use one of the Backup and Restore F...

Re: Names or he/she in Individual Narrative Report .....

Presumably you have noticed that most facts have a similar sentence construction.
i.e. {individual} was xxxxxed {date} {place} {age}.

Consider rearranging some facts into a different construction such as:
{date} {individual} was xxxxxed {place} {age}.
{place} {date} {individual} was xxxxxed {age}.

Re: Duplicate Source fields after merging projects

Welcome to the FHUG. The command you chose is not suitable and it is good you made backups. There is a dedicated command for merging Projects: File > Merge/Compare File... It is quite complex to deal with a multitude of scenarios where data may need to be retained from either Project. An important m...

Re: Introducing a 7 year old

Why not just disable Autosave and Autosave on Close? Tools > Preferences > File Load/Save > File Saving Options... However, you cannot disable the Save toolbar button. Why not create a Copy of the Project and let the 7 year play with that? Another option is to make the Project GEDCOM file Read Only....

Re: Sorting items in Property Box Citation List Pane

The idea of sorting by reverse Record Id only really works for Method 1 'splitter' Source Citations where each new citation creates a new Source Record. It does not work well for Method 2 'lumper' Source Citations where each new citation mostly reuses an existing Source Record. It also relies on hig...

Re: Individual Summary Report - missing data?

All I can suggest is that you post screenshots of the Marriage section of the Report and the Focus Window with the father in Focus and showing his Property Box alongside listing all 12 children. Are all 12 children displayed if you display a Diagram rooted on that couple? I've just thought  Do...

Re: Names or he/she in Individual Narrative Report .....

That is an interesting idea. You know %CUR_PRIN.NAME:FIRST% will generate the first name. Use Sex( %CUR_PRIN%, "He", "She" ) to generate "He" or "She". The trick is to arbitrarily/randomly choose one or the other. I looked at various options and decided the Da...

Re: Sorting items in Property Box Citation List Pane

That is an interesting proposition. Could you please explain the purpose. The usual advice is that those Source Citations should have the most relevant at the top. i.e. For a Birth event, the Birth Certificate should be first and perhaps Baptism or Census sources later. What would be the sort criter...

Welcome to the FHUG. Your posting is a little confusing. The profile on the right says you are using Family Historian: V7 but in your text you refere to FH v5.0.8 which is not even the latest for FH V5. The latest from the FH Download Archive is FH V5.0.11 . If you have had upgrade problems perhaps ...

Re: 'default GEDCOM file doesn't exist' error

I'm surprised that running the Ancestral Source Data Entry plugin from within FH does not supply the correct GEDCOM file path as that is exactly what it is designed to do.

Please confirm that opening AS "as a plugin in through FH" does involve the plugin specified above.

OK, it would have helped to include the Record Id of the Individuals to make it clear which are duplicates. Howver, I think there are four pairs of duplicated Individuals: Betty & Elizabeth FARLEY. Betty has no ancestors. Elizabeth just has (tenative) parents. Jane & Jenny HUTCHINGS. Jane ha...

Welcome to the FHUG. Unfortunately, only media image files of photos & documents (e.g. jpg, png, gif, tif) are ever displayed by FH itself. Other types of media such as PDF and Word DOCX can only be viewed via an external editor/viewer. Therefore, they cannot be displayed in Reports or Diagrams....

Re: Duplicate entries

David, how are those duplicated ancestors linked into the family tree? I would imagine they must be very close relatives to each other. e.g. Are they brothers or cousins? Theoretically, it should be possible to merge the two Individual records and the associated Family records. i.e. Use the Edit > M...

Re: Allow Report sentences to recognise Individuals who are Living.

I like that wording Lorna, as long as it says "child was" when only one child instead of "children were".

A similar sentence revision would resolve the OP specific sentence when there are no child facts, e.g.
"Joe Bloggs was born to Fred Blogs and Mary Smith."

Perhaps the solution is to rephrase those sentences something like this:

"Fred Blogs and Mary Smith are the parents of the following:"
