Re: Scottish Marriages

I suspect that this is a side effect of 18014|Marriage Witnesses where you wanted Witnesses to be top of the list so changed it to _Witnesses with a leading underscore. Thus, in any Auto-Text Template where it uses ASSOCLIST[Witnesses] that must change to ASSOCLIST[_Witnesses] . So use Tools > Autot...

Re: My Heritage Data Matches

Another workaround I have discovered is outlined below:
Use Internet > Search the Internet..., select MyHeritage SuperSearch, click Go To Site, and Log in to MyHeritage.
While that log in is active the Internet Data Matches ~ Web Search window is automatically logged in.

It is advisable to use the Export Gedcom File plugin in (FTA) Family Tree Analyzer mode to create the GEDCOM file for import to FTA.

Re: Media images linked to people

If you really need both versions of the image to be displayed in Reports then that is the way to do it. There is only one Media file and one Media record, so the only extra is the Link to Face frame setting. If you don't need both versions in Reports then the full image is always viewable in the Edi...

Re: Tools or Tips for Patterns in Research Data

The Tools > Work with Data > Addresses... dialogue gives you some useful clues. On the right is a Used column that indicates how many times that Address has been used in your Project. Now it might be that it is used multiple times by one Individual, but the Records... button lists every record for y...

Re: Using gedcom instead of Project

Hi David. They are not really defunct Projects but an arbitrary collection of folders and files outside your Project. They 'show up' because Media records in your Project link to them by the explicit paths shown. Referring back to your posting on Fri 11th Sep 2020 13:07 , most of those files are on ...

Re: Ancestral Sources - Remove Flag Support?

sgauntlett, have you reviewed Using Flags and Icons Knowledge Base article that explains how you can dispense with record Flags for Census years altogether and use nine simple Expressions instead. The big advantage is that once those Expressions are set up, you never have to maintain those Flags eve...

There is background advice in how_to:handle_people_with_multiple_names|> How to Handle People With Multiple Names . It is quite popular not to record the married name of women. See the thread 16255|Best Export Gedcom File Mode to GedView? . When dealing with other products the Export Gedcom File plugin is usually the best bet. Otherwise products can get confused by FH custom tags or omit certain standard GEDCOM tag details. It currently has no specific setting for GedView ...

Re: Exporting lead picture only

Hi Nick, depending on what you want to do with the exported details you might want to try using: File > Backup/Restore > Medium Backup (Project File & Project Data Subfolder Only) That creates a ZIP file of the important Project data excluding the Public folder. Unless you have an enormous number of...

Yes, start with Knowledge Base > Understanding Expressions.
That cross-refers to Data References and Functions that are the key components and to FH Help pages.

If you have any particular Expression in mind then we could use it as a tutorial here.

Re: In praise of named lists!

I am not sure I understand what you are trying to achieve because your description has some contradictions. Re: Start up screen

That does sound unusual but please try some other checks first. Try selecting another Project such as the Family Historian Sample Project and Set as Default Project so it gets the green tick. Then Exit and restart FH as before. If that works for a couple of other Projects then we need to investigate...

What you are seeing is the Project Window that lists all the Projects and presumably includes your main Project. FH does that when no Project has been nominated as the Default Project.
