Re: Duplicated Family

I recall you have had problems with 17152|Merge before in October last year. Where I advised studying glossary:merge_compare_files|> Merge/Compare File for detailed advice. I suspect you have fallen into the popular trap of only Merging the Individuals tab. Therefore, the Families , Sources , Media ...

Re: Duplicated Source Text in Ancestor Report Footnote

Kenneth, your screenshot shows an INDIVIDUAL record [351] for Thomas WELLES . EVERYTHING displayed there is completely separate from the SOURCE record [4] . The entity named Source is a CITATION that points to the SOURCE record History of the Welles Family in England ... . The subsidiary Note is loc...

Re: The best way to replace text in citations?

I'm not sure I understand the problem. The Text From Source box has a [...] button at its right-hand end just like other multi-line text boxes. Click that [...] button and an edit window opens in which you can edit, copy & paste, at will. Is the real problem that the same Text From Source content is...

Re: Notify me upon replies option

Thank you Colin, that is quite helpful, and as you say it is Jane's call. I switched on the Email notifications yesterday, and the messages received are reasonable as summarised below. Notice that you only get one Email until you return and visit the topic , rather than an Email for every Reply. Hel...

Re: Notify me upon replies option

Lorna, I have considered doing that, and may have actually done so on occasions, but doesn't it fall into the same category as sending emails without active consent that Helen raised? The ability to send such Emails is another User Control Panel > Board Preferences > Edit global settings > Users can...

Re: Duplicated Source Text in Ancestor Report Footnote

Kenneth, you've said the original snag was NOT a Citation Note issue and I can't let that pass without comment. I suspect it is a matter of terminology differences between FTM and the FH / GEDCOM model. Some products like FTM merge the Source Citations into one entity and refer to them as Citations ...

Re: Sentence for a still birth

Something like the following might be suitable: {individual} {=TextIf(%FACT.AGE% = "Stillborn","was stillborn","died")} <of {cause}> {date} {place}{=TextIf(%FACT.AGE% = "Stillborn","",Text(" aged ".%FACT.AGE%))}. But if there are only a few, editing the specific Death Sentence template is probably e...

Re: Another Marriage Status Query

The difference between Never Married and Unmarried Couple has been explained.
However, as Evelyn says, treat fathers named in a Marriage Certificate with caution, especially if recorded as deceased, unless you can find some other corroborative evidence.

You have still said nothing about whether you have saved Media files or not ! ! ! ! I presume you are asking about alternatives that run on a Mac ? Re: Interpretation of Marriage Witnesses etc

Resetting the Marriage Event Definitions has no effect on the Marriage Events recorded in the Project GEDCOM file except possibly how they are displayed, mainly in Narrative Reports . It also has no effect on Marriages captured via AS other than the way they are displayed in FH . e.g. If you were to...

Re: Clean Up and Validation Guidance

Hi David, I understand absolutely that you do not intend to split your Project into branches permanently. You want to prune back to purely direct ancestral lines, review their accuracy, and then rebuild branches bit by bit. I think the easiest way to do that is to first use Copy Project and then the...

Re: Can't access my History

Yes, getting FH V6 to run on a Mac requires a modicum of computer literacy. Certainly the simplest approach is a Windows laptop/desktop PC with FH V6 installed. That will in all probability be able to import your old GEDCOM files from a flash drive. You did not say anything about any accompanying Me...

Re: Notify me upon replies option

I'll go with whatever decision is taken. FYI: Over the last fortnight or so about 24 new members joined, but only 8 of them have posted anything. A couple have posted 10 times and 4 times respectively. So about 20 notification Emails over 2 weeks. That pattern is very similar all the way back to the...

I no way was I suggesting it be done for existing members, and I doubt if Colin was either. It would only be the default for new members to be consistent with other forums. If that setting cannot be changed, then can new members be advised about that User Control Panel option so they are aware that ...

FYI: The AS Help has quite good explanations for all its fields. Re: Linking photographs

To capture a Source document by hand in FH you must mimic what AS does automatically. There are various methods involving Automatic source citations , etc, but I will keep it basic. If you don't like what we create then it can easily be un-done or modified. First, in the Records Window open the Sour...

Notify me upon replies option

The User Control Panel > Board Preferences > Edit posting defaults has a Notify me upon replies by default option, which presumably would automatically tick that posting message option, but...

Re: OneDrive Data location

Yes, you can restore the backed-up Project zip files directly into FH V6 . It probably does not matter, but once in FH V6 the Projects will no longer be FH V5 compatible. i.e. You can migrate forwards in versions but not backwards. Hopefully, you know the File > Backup/Restore > Restore Backup comma...

Try this test script to see if the zip.dll file is detectable by checking the attr as before:

Code: Select all

	require("lfs")
	local storein = fhGetContextInfo('CI_APP_DATA_FOLDER')..'\\Plugins\\'
	local attr = lfs.attributes(storein..'zip.dll')
	debug=debug
