Re: Private Individuals

If I have understood correctly, there is no easy way to do that. It is complex enough to export a GEDCOM from FH that has full details for ancestors of your grandparents, but privatised details for their descendants, and migrate it to a new Ancestry Family Tree online. BUT I suspect that is NOT what...

Re: change settings so dates are circa instead of cal

I assume it is only Birth event Dates that need to be customised. So in Diagram > Options > Text tab use Clone button to copy the desired scheme, and then Edit that. In Used Items , select the Birth fact and Edit that to replace %INDI.BIRT.DATE:COMPACT% with: =TextIf( %INDI.BIRT.DATE:XDATETYPE% = &q...

Re: change settings so dates are circa instead of cal

The problem mainly applies to Census records, as the others do offer all the Qualifier options, including none. However, there is no option to choose the default Qualifier . That is why, in my first Reply , I suggested Irene could contact Nick Walker and see what he says. Then everyone went a bit of...

Re: change settings so dates are circa instead of cal

When faced with such as aged 10 in the 1911 census , Ancestral Sources has a default Smart dates option where for event dates before the end of June an additional year is taken off for these calculations, so the calculated year would be either 1900 or 1901. If a Baptism says the child was baptised t...

Re: change settings so dates are circa instead of cal

FH Help says: Approximate means the date is not exact. Calculated means the date has been calculated mathematically - for example, from an event date and age. Estimated means that the date has been estimated based on an algorithm, using some other event date. GEDCOM says much the same: ABT = About,...

Re: change settings so dates are circa instead of cal

No, strangely, there appears to be no option for that. All the other BMD data entry types offer much more flexible Date of Birth options where the Date Qualifier can be selected from About (Approx / c.), Calculated (Cal), or Estimated (Est). But the Census data type is an anomaly, and does not offer...

Paula, thank you for the clarification of where you are at and how that led to your original posting. The point to remember is that you knew all that, but all the people who responded did not. Re: Reducing the size of the source list in reports

David, that is all fine except that you can have Text From Source transcripts and Media images, and also keep the report Sources section compact. In the Report Options just untick both Text from Source options and Show Source/Citations Pictures options. I'm not sure why you pick out ages and dates o...

Re: posts show as unread even after viewing them

I am not sure that is the problem Bill, or the solution David. When you open a new entry, all the postings are shown at once and 'marked as read' without needing to scroll through them. I suspect what happened is that Bill read a posting, but by his next visit somebody had added a Reply that needed ...

Re: Reducing the size of the source list in reports

That reverse sort by pressing the Alt key while clicking the column Heading is a feature that applies throughout FH for almost every tabulated list, such as Query Result Set, Tools > Work with Data lists, but not the Facts tab.
