Re: Umlauts and accents

As a matter of interest, did Calico Pie explain why it won't work on your little touch screen lap top? The FH Help page Configure Language and Accent Characters Dialog says it only works in a "text field in the Property Box or in the AutoSource Citation Pane ", so it is not supported elsewhere such ...

Re: Obvious problem not staring me in the face

Where do I begin? Firstly, most text items referenced by ptrItem cannot have a Source Citation subsidiary tag ( ~.SOUR ). The only such text items would be Note fields. So I suspect you need to move the ptrItem to its parent field that is more likely to allow ~.SOUR . If it is a Fact Note do you wan...

Re: Formatting of ‘Text From Source’ in Narrative Reports (and website)

I suspected you might need help with that Search and Replace operation but did not want to over complicate my initial reply with the details. You are almost there, and just need advice for the Search: and Replace: fields as follows: ^([^¶ ].*) and ¶ %1 respectively, where ¶ represents a newline and ...

Re: delete a file for rebuild

In the plugins:getting_started|> Getting Started Writing Plugins under Other Lua Library Modules there is the Lua File System Library described at http://keplerproject.github.io/luafilesystem/manual.html . That allows the Attributes of files to be read, including time of last modification, which is ...

Re: I read the scant help and it is not null

Don't paste into Wordpad as that makes it even bigger.
Follow the Knowledge Base > Posting Topics guide and use the Snipping Tool to create a file.
If still too big then create a compressed ZIP file and attach that.

Re: I read the scant help and it is not null

Usually when debugging we have been talking about tables.
But yes, it would be useful to copy & paste the variables pane.
However, that is not possible, so you will have to take a screenshot.

Re: delete a file for rebuild

I really have no idea what you are trying to do, or what problem your are trying to solve and need help with. Instead of saving pointers you can retain effectively the same relationship by saving Record Id. So instead of saving a pointer to a Family record, save the Family Record Id. Similarly for a...

Re: I read the scant help and it is not null

Why do you need to copy those variables?
Only simple variables would be useful as tables don't show any values.

Re: delete a file for rebuild

Yes, fptr is pointing to FAM ily record with Id = 345 It depends which FAMC or FAMS you want to reference. In the Family record there are pointers to each relative's Individual record: FAM.HUSB holds pointer to husband that has INDI.FAMS pointer back to Family record. FAM.WIFE holds pointer to the w...

Re: delete a file for rebuild

It would help if you explained what save and load mechanisms you are talking about. I presume you mean table.save(...) and table.load(...) ? In that case table.save(...) will always overwrite the previously saved file when you rebuild the data. Anyway, you must know the full file path used by those ...

Re: I read the scant help and it is not null

I don't understand what you mean by "the select indi records screen" ?
A screenshot to illustrate such problems would make it much clearer.

Which FH stuff is not copy and pasteable ?
Use a screenshot for that stuff.

Re: I read the scant help and it is not null

It would help to see the Lua script that creates tblWEB and tblpFaG entries. Have you debugged the contents of those tables ? Are those tables both the same size ? i.e. #tblWEB == #tblpFaG Remember to make them local so easier to see in debug pane. tblWEB column is defined as 'text' so cannot be a p...

File that are only in the cloud are not actually on your machine.
They are only called down when required to be displayed.
In OneDrive there is an option to keep all copies of cloud files on your machine.
Is there a similar option in iCloud?

Re: Changing Fact Type from an Event to an Attribute

Firstly, the standard Immigration and Emigration facts are Events not Attributes . In the GEDCOM standard they only have one Place field just like all other facts ( Events & Attributes ). Although FH adheres to the standard, it has added a 2nd Place field just for those two events, using a special t...

Jane, do you mean the Plugin has to construct all the details required in the Report, or that somehow a standard FH Report can be produced that way?
I think the OP was hoping for the latter.

Re: Exporting to Ancestry

You won't be able to update the existing Ancestry tree, but will have to create a new one.
If you had tried uploading the FH GEDCOM file directly from your Project, then Ancestry would not recognise that.

After having reviewed the advice, if you need specific advice then please ask.

Re: Exporting to Ancestry

It would be useful to know why you wish to transfer your family tree to Ancestry as there may be alternatives. Unfortunately it is not a simple process for several reasons. Firstly, you need to consider the privacy of sensitive data of living people that should not be published online. Secondly, Anc...

Re: Changing Fact Type from an Event to an Attribute

The Immigration and Emigration facts do not adhere to the standard GEDCOM rules that only allow one Place name. So the 2nd Place won't export to other genealogy products, and is not supported by other facts. Strangely, FH does not even prevent you using the {place2} and {_place2} codes in other fact...

Re: Linux with FH 5.0

BUT did you see what I said about FH V5 not working well (if at all) with Crossover, etc?
For the small cost it will be well worth upgrading to FH V6.
Then any problems you experience will be similar to other Crossover, etc, users.
