Re: Using and displaying Places

There is also ready made Standard Query > Events Near Place . Is your existing custom Query a Fact Type Query ? If it were, then by filtering on a Place it would list every person and every fact at that Place . You can get an illustration by running View > Standard Query > All Facts . Then click on ...

Re: Using and displaying Places

Kim, you mention viewing the Residence and other facts on the Main tab of the Property Box . You must have customised Residence into the Main tab as it is not shown by default. Anyway, the Main tab can only show a summary of a handful of facts, so is unlikely to show all places where a person lived....

Re: Expressions in Customize Data Entry?

Yes, in most features Expressions are supported wherever Data References are allowed.
See Knowledge Base > Understanding Expressions.
But Customize Data Entry is the exception.

Re: Expressions in Customize Data Entry?

Kim, I've moved this to the General Usage Forum as it is not to do with Plugins.

The Customize Data Entry feature is very restricted on what is supported.
Expressions are not allowed at all, and even Data References are severely restricted to just the current record.

Yes, and that behaviour is described in the Help page (obtained by pressing F1 key) in The Map Viewer section under Map . The oddity is that BobWard says that after using the slider his mouse wheel behaves like the slider whereas beforehand it behaves as expected. Bob, after using the slider, where ...

Re: Expressions in a Diagram

You need to use the =TextPart(...) function. e.g. =TextPart( %INDI.CENS[year=1841].PLAC%, 2 ) to extract 2nd part of Census Place field. That must be tested against the place name within the =IsTrue(...) function. e.g. =IsTrue( TextPart( %INDI.CENS[year=1841].PLAC%, 2 ) = "London" ) There ...

Re: Map Window Location search field question

I don't get any mention of the word Array . For the places Bill mentions, FH list 12 locations with the first being the obvious New York, United States of America , or similarly for London and Los Angeles followed by sub-districts within each city. I have tried other cities and the lists always incl...

BTW: Any mention of an external browser, such as Bill referring to Google Chrome, is irrelevant because the Map Window is always internal to FH and always uses the Internet Explorer Shell browser engine.

The free upgrades can be applied to both machines independently. Paid for upgrades can be installed on both machines the same as original installation. There are ways of synchronising the database on your two machines. See fhugdownloads:synchro|> Downloads and Links ~ Synchronise and Backup Tools .

Is it actually while loading the Fact Sets, or is it prior to that when requiring the libary modules, or elsewhere?

A bit more digging in the 1851 to 1881 records has found the following that may be worth following up: 1851 HO107 Piece 1820 Folio 512 Page 15 at Belsy Bridge, Ditchingham, Loddon, Norfolk. Samuel Hawes widower (b.1813 St Andrews) with son Samuel (b.1830) and daughters Mary (b.1833) & Alice (b.1...

Re: Multiple instance of birth registration.

An interesting family history, Paula. Perhaps what I should have said is the registraton district Wangford is registered in Suffolk. It is important to make that distinction when searching for records, even if Bungay is mostly in Norfolk. I now understand why Sarah was recorded as daughter-in-law of...

Yes David, that is normal. That might occur if you have deleted a custom Report type, or a custom Query, etc. ...

I think it is possible the birth was first registered with no father, and later the father was prepared to have his name added.
That will probbaly become apparent when you order the GRO Index entry that Bian mentions.

Ron, you need to use one of the other functions related to =Field(...) that handles qualifiers such as :SURNAME_FIRST.
