Re: Record transcription

Ancestry and Find My Past also have lots of registers these days, but you need to use the "check the catalogue" trick to find who has what. So for example Devon is on Find My Past, but Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire are on Ancestry. Be aware that many smaller churches still have the more r...

Re: Queries. Note fields?

glossary:notes#note_records|> Note Records Notes can be attached at many levels to individuals, facts, sources, media, citations etc. These can be local or Note Records. Note Records are stored in Records and can be seen on the View>Record Lists>Notes Local notes are stored with in the record they ...

Re: Record transcription

I once had a completely wrong certificate, it turned out the GRO copy had swapped the two couples, the one from the registry office made far more sense. Be warned though to order Marriages from the local offices you normally need to know the Church or Registry office as they don't have an index in m...

Re: Queries. Note fields?

You want

Code: Select all

%INDI.NOTE2[1]%

as the Data Reference tool states %INDI.NOTE[1]% is a link to a Note record and not a local note.

Re: Record transcription

In all likelyhood yes, one will exist, but you will need to order it direct from the Registry office concerned (or the one which inherited registers), as the GRO is a transcript of the originals sometimes entries get missed or transcribed incorrectly. A good place for free access to some indexes is ...

Re: Is there a plugin for FH Website update requests?

I don't think there is a plugin for this, although Mike's Web page enhancement might. What you could do is add a standard PHP contact form to your site to replace the generated one, and use PHP to pick up the referring page ($_SERVER["HTTP_REFERER"];) and add that as a hidden field on the ...

Re: Map Life Facts and Leaflet

I have 568 showing no data, I don't want the plugin to code them all my locations have valid geocodes in the Place fields, so I don't know why it's showing them as wrong and I don't want to run the routine as I spent ages getting all the plots exactly where I wanted them, how do I get the plugin jus...

Re: Source Record ID Numbers missing or wrongly assigned after import from TMG

I have never used TMG, is it possible one or two of your sources have non numeric references, which is causing FH to renumber them? With the gedcom movement, are the sources in the original file exported from TMG or has TMG missed them. You can open the gedcom file in a Text Editor and search for th...

Re: Map Life Facts and Leaflet

Not having much luck, when I put a 39 char key in and try to use the Create Maps, it's still trying to use Google and obviously failing as the key is not valid, I can't see any un-geocoded locations on my records.

Re: Map Life Facts and Leaflet

Sorry Mike, silly question. All my locations are geocoded in FH, so I don't need to geocode them in the plugin but for some reason it's not letting me create maps. Have I missed another setting?

Re: Map Life Facts and Leaflet

Just as an aside on this, you can use the NLS 1920's map tiles with Leaflet, useful when plotting streets on Cities bombed in the 2nd World War.

Re: Export Gedcom Plugin - Resizing media

Thanks Mike, I think I worked out what the problem is caused by, it's when the png or gif is saved with transparency on. I suspect there is probably a call to turn off transparency before saving as a jpg. Anyway dropping back to save as the original format works fine.

Re: Using fh to list military?

If you add an Alternate name you would need to add a different data reference, including the second name. The adorned qualifier is a standard one. A good tip to see what they all do, is to open a custom query and click down through the qualifiers and it will explain at the bottom what they all mean....

I might have missed it, but is it possible to get the Export plugin to resize all the media? I found I can resize the cutouts, but I would like to resize all the media down when I am exporting for TNG as some of my scanned documents are huge and I only want to post a "1000x1000" copy of do...

Re: Entering children of unmarried women

Another possible solution is to Add a custom attribute of "Name for Diagrams". Then simply add a Line at the very top of your text scheme using that attribute and change the Name line to only show if the Name for Diagrams is blank. This can be used easily for as many people as you want and...
