Re: Birth and death registrations.

As far as I know as now all registrations are normally made by Family Members, if the informant had been a 3rd party their name would have been shown on the Certificate.

For example

Re: FH on "Microsoft Surface" machine

That should be fine, you will need to switch off "s" mode if the tablet comes with it turned on, as in s mode you can only run apps which are purchased via the Microsoft Store. It's free to switch off according to the MS site.

As long as it's one of the "modern" surface computers which allow running of full Windows desktop apps you should be fine.

Re: Places - Checking for Country

I would assume the country should always be the last field in the place so you could simply use

Code: Select all

=TextPart(%_PLAC%,-1) matches 'Australia'
Which will return the last element. You then only need one line for each country.

Re: LUA: howto upload binary file

You will probably need to use a POST request with the Form Data Type which I think should sort out the problem as it encapsulates the data in a more secure form. This AutoIt script is similar, but I have not coded it for FH yet. https://www.autoitscript.com/forum/topic/153314-multipart-file-uploadin...

Re: Format of FactOwner

You could add a column with

Code: Select all

=GetFieldText(FactOwner(%FACT%,1,MALES_FIRST),"%INDI.NAME:SURNAME_FIRST%")
If you make the original column a buddy column and place it after this one you can make this column "live" for selection.

Re: Reinstalling FH

I contacted FH support and they had tried to respond to you, but you emailed on an iCloud email which is returning a mailbox full option so their responses have been bouncing back. However as Mike says if you have lost your licence sheet for V5 you will not be able to install the upgrade. It may be ...

I would also tend to add a Fact (possibly under occupation) to say that she became a Nun and took on the name of Sister Bernadette. That way anyone reviewing your information can see exactly when the name changed.

Re: DNA Set up

Most of the DNA tools in 7 are to do with using existing relationships but taking into account Adoption markers etc. I will be continuing to use Notes to record the shared ancestors as per https://www.taubman.org.uk/family/wp/2019/03/13/recording-dna-matches-in-family-historian/ but updating them wi...

Re: Should I halt the ReDo?

With Family Historian there tends to be "evolution" not "revolution", meaning in general, what you have done already will carry over to new versions with out too many problems. The core new functions such as "Word Processing" and spell checking in notes will import your plain notes so there is nothi...

Re: Exporting gedcom file to excel

As Valkrider said you can export any Query results in Family Historian as CSV files and according to the Tableau site you can import CSV files directly. I have not worked with Tableau as at $70 a month it's a bit out of my price range. It looks like a data analysis tool so I doubt it will handle fam...

If you add the note as a column on your query. You can simply select all the cells in the column and press the delete key.

Re: Can I produce a copy of a Descendent family tree?

Another useful tool, is the How Related Tool which you can select two people and ask FH to create a diagram showing how they relate to each other. This is great for sending to DNA matches once you have entered the line into your tree.

Like any diagram you have control of the text scheme used.

Mike, the reason I suggested it as a possible reason is if you use Windows explorer it won't automatically change the gedcom and sub folder names or the link to the gedcom in the .fh_proj file.

Ron that code does not call the RelationCode Function. Once you have added the code for that and put in the check for the spouse start and you have explained exactly what you are not getting I will look at this again. I am not going to write the code for you.

Object Orientation wasn't a problem - it's the, ahem, basic format with text concatenators and assignment operators v. comparison operators (==???!!!) and all the rest of that stuff - that's muscle memory if you've been down those languages but a pain if not. Tell me about it, some days I work in P...

Re: Mater-Pater

A fairly easy way to do this is to call the RelationCode function and do it on both parents to see which one is a direct line eg spouse_start flag is not set.
