Re: FH Upgrade Schedule (roughly speaking)

You can see the earlier release dates here: how_to:about|> About Family Historian It's worth checking out the What's New on the main Calico site, as when Family Historian has a Major update the amount of new features tends to be large. Calico are very cagey about new release dates, but they are alwa...

Re: Ancestry DNA tests

Another possible solution is to use a comma separated list in a single Attribute and use ContainsText such as =ContainsText(%INDI._ATTR-DNA_MARKERS%,"group1",STD) where the attribute or cast field could contain group1, group2, group3 etc One caveat would be if you need to avoid having one ...

Re: Save and Backup discrepancies

I suspect you have saved them in different folders, but with the same name. Ideally you should not be saving gedcoms manually, but using a Project for your data and using the backup options. I would recommend doing a windows search for the relevant file names and tidy up the files, you will be able ...

Have you installed FH on your Desktop? Are you getting an error or is the program simply not starting?
If it's the latter and you have Bit Defender installed try going to Advanced threat detection and excluding FH for monitoring.

Re: Electoral registers

Just to echo what Helen said, the key is to decide how you want to record things, you may not be "obsessed" yet, but it creeps up on you and you may suddenly find obsession striking. When Mike says be consistent, he simply means if you start off using Residence events, always do so, if you...

Re: Apply source citation to existing data

Personally, I source using GRO indexes as a confirming source against information given verbally by other members of the family, so this means for a birth I will have a Source eg "Jane Smith nee Jones (I2) Verbal" and a second source of GRO Birth, Where in source 1964 Q1 Taunton 5a xxx

Re: Apply source citation to existing data

One extra thought if you want to add a source to everything before sending it so someone else. There is a handy trick. Create a new empty project. Use the File>Merge Compare to import your existing project and use the option to add a source to all added information. This means you can add a source t...

Re: Apply source citation to existing data

I am not sure adding a blanket source would help in this case, you will not improve the ability of someone to check your data as the family member who supplied the information would not be known. You could write a plugin to do this fairly easily, using the Record select option to pick all the record...

Re: Advise re transfer to new PC

Probably the easiest way is to purchase a V5-V6 upgrade as a download as this can be installed on the new PC and you can enter your V5 and V6 codes. Alternately copy the contents of your V5 CD to a USB stick and install the V5 program from that. You can see the prices for any available version on th...

Re: spouse count

So to confirm you want to permanently write all the married name options to the Individual record for the woman, and thereafter maintain them manually? Personally I would not do this as it's potentially very confusing if you share your data to have all the married names recorded against the record, ...

Interestingly the Top Bottom option does not work in Excel 2010 either, the scroll bar moves but the contents do not! So I suspect it's something at the OS level.

Re: Wordpress Gedcom plugin

Looks like a good start. I would be interested in having a play with it when it's ready. Will you be adding a short code to display the details for a single record or jump to a page which does? Useful when including names in an article. I have been thinking about writing something for this for a whi...

Alternately, try clicking on the blue link at the base of the Project window and selecting the folder manually using a folder which you have other documents in. Can you still not create a Project?

Re: 2nd project

If you add all the facts and sources to Susan's project they will not appear in your Project. Each project is completely separate from each other. That is how professional researchers use it to research lots of separate people. You don't say what program she is using, but if she also has FH you can ...

I have replaced the default search at the top of the forum with the one which is called from the front page as this searches both the knowledge base and the forum.

If you want to search just the forum please click the gearwheel (flower) to open the advanced search.

I think this will do what you want, it will prompt as before, but also ask for a selected member to show relationships for.

To show how everyone is interrelated in one run would probably need a plugin.
