Open the Property Dialog for the Individual that you want to add a relative
to, if not already open (see How
to View an Individual's Record in the Property Dialog). On the Main
tab of the Property Dialog, you will see the Individual's name, sex and
basic birth and death details.
To Add a Spouse:
- About half way down the Main tab, opposite the word 'Spouse' written
vertically in the left margin of the dialog, there are a group of fields
(all grey at this point) relating to the person's spouse. In the (spouse)
Name field it says "<click here to add spouse>". Click
in that Name field and a menu appears which lets you choose whether you
wish to create a new record for the spouse or link to an existing record.
Choose Create New Record As Spouse. Now the spouse fields become
white. Fill these in to specify details of the spouse. All fields are
optional, so leave fields blank if not applicable. The fields opposite
the Marr. label (also now white) are for marriage details. If the
couple never married or if they divorced, choose the appropriate status
in the field. For ordinary
marriages, leave the field
- If you create a new record for the spouse, the new record will be automatically
linked to your current Individual as spouse.
There is no limit to the number of spouses you can
create for each Individual. There is always one tab for each spouse
that a person had, showing in this section of the Main tab of the Property
dialog, plus one extra blank one. To add more spouses for an Individual,
choose the blank spouse tab and click on the Name field where it says
"<click here to add spouse>".
- To switch the main focus of the Property Dialog to the spouse, click
on the button
at the right end of the (spouse) Name field.
To Add a Child:
To Link an Existing Record as Spouse, Child or Parent:
- Use the same techniques as those described above, but instead of choosing
or Child) when a dropdown menu appears, choose (or Parent or Child).
