Anyway, that woud be "In 1881 he was resident in Hitchin. In 1881 he was a railway porter." to read something like "In 1881 he was resident in Hitchin, and was a railway porter." My intention was to add a comment to that one, but if I've missed it somewhere, this can be treated as a new request... i.e. also to combine events with the same text. Thus, "In 1881 he was a railway porter... In 1891 he was a railway porter... In 1901 he was a railway porter." to read "In 1881, 1891 and 1901 he was a railway porter." (I can already contrive something like this by putting a single event with a date range, but it needs updating when a new census is found, and the wording "Between 1881 and 1901 he was..." seems to me to have the wrong implications.) This is a tad trickier to define the rules since it implies events can be reported out of order, but I think it would be worth the effort, and should take precedence over the combined same date option. It should only apply to consecutive events of the same type (i.e. there may be other events between 1881 and 1901, but if there are other occupations, the clauses should be separated.) |
