| Title | Add SOURCE to Multimedia objects |
| Category | General |
| Description | (note
- this WL item has been split from another as per a suggestion
by Kathy Kult [1]. WL#417 (other) now only refers to adding a PLACE to a Multimedia object. WL#493 refers to adding a SOURCE) It is good to record where a photo came from and the best place would be in a SOURCE record. Currently, the only way to do this is "under" a dummy Note Record. So, allow a Multimedia object to include a _SOURCE custom field in the same way that it currently allows a _DATE custom field. Attaching a SOURCE citation to an OBJ (multimedia item) is already allowed in GEDCOM, and since Family Historian is supposed to be GEDCOM-based, I do not understand why it's not already allowed in FH (I know you can do this in a rather round-about way by adding a "linked note" to the OBJ and then add a citation to the linked note, but that's actually citing the "note", not the image). This exclusion of the spec has bugged me since 2006, as I'd like to be able to source my photos correctly. See http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/%7Epmcbride/gedcom/55gcch2.htm#MULTIMEDIA_RECORD for the GEDCOM standard on Multimedia records... the fourth item is Source Citation.
