What is a Wiki?

The definition of a Wiki is: A website or similar online resource which allows users to add and edit content collectively.

This particular Wiki is designed to allow users of Family Historian to pool their knowledge of the program to help both new and experienced users make better use of the program.

One unusual thing about Wikis is that you are actively encouraged to edit and improve existing documents as well as to add new ones. So don't be shy, if you find something which needs expanding or has a spelling mistake, please feel free to correct and update the document. Every version of the page is recorded so if you do have a problem the administrators here can recover an earlier version.

There is an excellent guide to editing pages and using the Wiki at DokuWiki:Editing and further advice in the Contributing Your Knowledge Contents section.

Signing Up

You will need to register here even if you are already a member of the FHUG site or the mailing list, as unfortunately the administrators have not yet worked out a way of sharing the registrations. Click on Login above to sign in, or register.

It is recommended that you use the same username as you use on FHUG, as that way if the IDs are combined in the future it will make things easier.

Once you have signed up, please E-mail a message to giving the username you signed up with and she will elevate you to be able to edit. We used to allow any one to edit once signed up, but unfortunately we have been having issues with people deliberately corrupting pages.

DokuWiki

This version of the Wiki software is DokuWiki and is written in PHP. It stores all its data in text files and does not need MySQL to operate.
