PDF creators will create a 'virtual printer' on your computer. In other words an extra PDF printer will appear in your list of available printers. If you print to this printer, instead of being printed out onto paper, a PDF file will be created.
However, many popular products now incorporate PDF creators. For example, the free OpenOffice.org suite has an Export as PDF option, the free 2007 Microsoft Office Add-in and the full Microsoft Office 2010 suite provide a Save as PDF option, and Family Historian Version 4, or later, can save Charts, Diagrams, Query Result Sets, Reports & Books as PDF documents.
