FindmyPast Hints

Post by David Potter »

Hi Forum

I can see this has been discussed a few times, and the solution to delete the Hints Cache is useful but not what I'm looking for.
I have a number of individuals whereby I have handled all the Hints as in Accept, Reject. So now there are no more Hints to handle - how do I review what I have previously accepted or rejected? There doesn't seem to be anyway to do this unless a New hint arrives?

In the Family Historian menu Click Internet > Internet Data Matches > FindMyPast > Settings > Change "Default" to "Accepted" or "Rejected"

See how_to:internet_data_matches|> Internet Data Matches that refers to Tools > Preferences > Internet Data Matches which is the same as Internet > Internet Data Matches.

Hi Mike

I'm aware of those settings - but it doesn't cover my issue - which is how to retrospectively view what hints I previously handled. The only two solutions seem to be Clear the Hint Cache or change the setting to <> New as Mjashby suggested.

Can you explain exactly why the <> New setting does not cover your issue.

If with the setting = Default (new) there are none, but with it = Accepted (or Rejected) there are some, then they are the ones you previously handled.

If you clear the Hint Cache that certainly does not cover your issue, because all history of previous actions has gone.

If you are asking for a Report or some way of interrogating the contents of the Hint Cache then you are not alone, but the format of the Hint Cache is a mystery known only to Calico Pie. So report your problem to them.

I see you have already Voted for Wish List Ref 549 More options for Internet Data Matches.

Hi Mike

Maybe a misunderstanding - the <> New does solve the problem in that it enables Accepted or Rejected Hints to be displayed via the small Hint Button

The Issue is simply that if there are no more New Hints AND all previous Hints are either Accepted or Rejected, then from the Focus Screen there is no way to get to those previously handled hints. The small hint button is no longer visible. Unless you change the settings as per first para.

Ah. I think I see what you mean.
You want the ability to get to the FMP hints web page with the drop-list for New, Accepted, Rejected top left, even when there are no New hints, and without changing the settings.

There is one method that appears to work.
Whilst in the FMP hints web page, copy & paste the URL from the bar across the top into say the Note field of that person.
Later, get to that web page for any other person, and copy & paste the URL back, press Enter, and then Refresh the page.
That returns you to the original web page so you can use the drop-list.
In fact you can paste that URL into any browser at any time outside FH and get the same web page.

Hi Mike

All credit due to you for conjuring up that solution. You are definitely worthy of the Megastar award. And please don't get upset by my comments as I do appreciate you are trying to help. But I can't see this approach is any quicker or easy to remember per individual than temp changing the settings to Default <> New

I thought I was missing something to reactivate these previously handled hints - but apparently not.

Many thanks for your efforts here...

You are correct. As I was writing up that alternative, I thought it was no quicker than changing the Settings.
However, do describe that scenario in a report to Calico Pie, and maybe they can keep the green hint circle active even when zero new hints.
