Yes, it looks like the batch process glitched and it was restarted by the Web server. I am afraid we may have to live with it, as it has not happened for many weeks, if it becomes a regular occurrence I will need to put in some sort of tracking mechanism to save me having to pay Amazon SES twice for the messages.

I've received 2 copies again about 6 minutes apart.

It doesn't really matter to me, but if FHUG is paying on a "per email" basis it could be a waste of money.

If it helps, I looked at the email headers and they were sent from two different Amazon data centres - the first one from Ashburn, Virginia and the second from Seattle, Washington.
From the time stamps they were sent six minutes apart, and both to the same email address.

This happens occasionally, I am not sure if it is a Amazon thing, as I can't see any errors on our server and the logs look fine, eg people are not listed twice. I use Amazon to send them as our TOS for the web server frowns on sending bulk emails.

Jane, on a different but related subject is there any option to change the subject line of this digest?

That is not the subject it is the email it is sent from. I would need to reconfigure all the Amazon services to change the email, so no.

Yes, I am aware. What is strange is the routine is a simple CRON job with a run time for Wednesday at 8 there is nothing in there to repeat it.

Presumably the cron job is running a routine that then sends the emails. Is it possible that this routine is set to restart if it times out (or something like that) and for some reason it timed out twice today?

I have asked Krystal and they say it was only submitted once.

I have looked at the code and it is a really simple build list, loop list, send emails. There is nothing clever in it.

I will have to try and add a lock to stop it if it has started recently.

@Jane I wonder if it's failing mid way through the list so someone near the end would get only one email? If that's the case would it possible to force yourself to be at the end of the list so you could identify if that is what's happening? If it is that and it is automatically restarting, adding a lock may mean some people get no email.

I also received 3 copies today - 5:10pm, 5:20pm and 5:31pm (Australian Eastern Standard Time). It doesn't worry me - I supply this information as it may be of help to Jane.

I'm not sure how the list is ordered if it is ordered but FWIW I only received one copy and my email begins 'VY'
