Changing a source citation

Post by gsward »

There is a useful plugin "Replace Selected Source Citations" for changing citations. However I only want to change the citation for a subset of all the citations for a particular source. The subset is based on the Fact type (e.g. Birth, Marriage, Death).

Is a small modification to the plugin possible to achieve this or is there another way, perhaps using a named list?

Thanks,

Graham

That starts to get tricky, but could add a prompt for each potential change with a Yes/No option.
Then for the desired Facts you say Yes and the others you say No.
As long as there are not too many, it should be tolerable.

Could also add a Cancel option so when all desired changes completed the rest can be skipped.

Checking each one is a viable option, particularly with the Cancel, that would get me there.

Not sure whether or not this is relevant here but I found out recently (I have no idea how long it has been available) that changing a single source link is available via the All tab of the property box.

Select the name of the source and right-click, one of the options is "Replace Link With.." a new source record or an existing source record.

Not as convenient as a plug-in but for the occasional single change is useful.

Yes David, that option exists for any linked record such as Source, Media, Note, Family, etc.
It can usually be performed perhaps with a few more clicks via the more conventional dialogues.
e.g. In the Sources For pane, a Citation can be deleted using the X Delete Citation button and replaced by using the + Add Citation button.

True, but that also removes all the citation details doesn't it? Whereas switching the linked source in the All tab retains the citation details and only switches the linked source.

Yes, good point.
Being a Method 1 'splitter' I rarely have anything in the Citation fields so overlooked that.
