Modifying Baptism Template for Further Info - Ref ID:

Post by David Potter »

Hi Forum

I have noticed it is possible to create and modify Census data entry screens using the Template Editor. Is it possible to do a similar thing with say Baptism entries? I would like to setup a default text string to remind me to enter consistently into the Further Info - Ref ID: field.

'The Parish Registers of Year Page Record' then I would just fill in the blanks accordingly or delete what parts I don't have.

Please see the screen shot.

Many Thanks...

Only the Census data entry Grid has a Template.
There is no equivalent Template for the other data entry types.

However, the Tools > Options > Birth settings has Warn if reference ID is blank so you won't inadvertently leave it blank.

Where are you using that Ref ID text?
Are you using the default Method 1 option to put it in the Source record Publication Information field?
Or do you have some other purpose for it, such as the Title or the Auto Text by using the {REF} keyword?

Hi Mike - sorry only just saw your reply.

I use it to create Baptism entries (Method 1) and record where the Source of the Baptism information came from. Example: The Parish Registers of Ashchurch Year 1884 Page 6 Record 111. This then ties in with the Baptism Image for the Individual concerned.

It's not that I forget to enter the info and I have that option to warn if left empty switched on. it's more about keeping the text consistent always like beginning with 'The' and not just 'Parish Registers of .... I just have a Obsession with consistency

As a workaround, you could put this as the first line of your auto-text template so that the majority of the text can be automatically created including address and year. Then you could then tweak this as required and copy and paste this into the reference ID just before you save (and as you said it will warn you if you forget to do that). It isn't perfect, but probably only takes a few seconds more than it would for your ideal solution, which as Mike has correctly explained isn't possible in the current version of AS.

OK, so I guess it goes into the Source record Publication Information field by default.

There is no way to default the Ref ID text, but there is a way to help consistency.

Modify the Tools > Autotext Template for whichever template you usually use.
At the top add a line such as:
The Parish Registers of <Year> <Page> Record
Then when you create the Auto-Text you can cut & paste that line to the Ref ID field.

SNAP!!!
