Custom query expression for generation number

Post by mushroomcricket »

hi there,

I'm would like for a custom query to show the generation number of the descendants of a group of ancestors, like '1' or '2' generations from the ancestors.

Do you know what expression I should enter into custom query to produce this result?

Thanks!

Have a look at the functions =Relationship() and =RelationCode().
See Help > Search Help > Relationship Functions > List Topics for details.

However, I don't understand exactly what Generation number you want.

You mention "descendants of a group of ancestors" which is confusing.

If you choose one Individual, and list all Descendants, then their Generation number can be calculated with respect to the chosen Individual.

But if you choose several Individuals, and list all their Descendants, then they could have several common Ancestors and cannot determine which one to use to calculate a Generation number.
