Re: Narrative report not all pictures/media appear in report
Thank you Lorna, but the weird part is that sometimes the picture appears and sometimes it does not. I cannot seem to find a consistent reason why or why not.

Narrative report not all pictures/media appear in report
Hi All, I have a narrative report that is over 1,600 pages. The media/pictures appear with descendants, but not their children - and it is not always consistent. Sometimes the picture is with the child, sometimes not. It doesn't matter if the picture is linked as media or fact. I have tried both. I ...

Re: Custom ID Field
I created a complete backup, just in case In 'Work with Record Identifiers" there is an option to generate new record Ids by copying custom value IDs So, if I add my information to Custom IDs Then, perform the option to copy Custom IDs to Record IDs, that might work It says that the program wil...

Re: Custom ID Field
I want to reference a prior genealogy written in 1890. I had a custom field in TMG, which did not come over, my fault. A few people have mentioned that the numbering system does not match the original 1890 genealogy. Which it will not, because I have found new people, and corrected errors. But, I co...

Re: Custom ID Field
After rereading this entire dialogue, I think my best course is to use a separate note. I have already published a version of my genealogy, a book 900 pages in length. I did not include record IDs in the first edition book, so the use of them in the second edition book would be a waste of time. Or w...

Re: Custom ID Field
I have been reading this with a lot of interest, as a former TMG user. I would also like to use the Custom ID field to correlate with prior information. Is it possible for the Custom ID field to appear in a narrative report? I do not seem to be able to make that work. I can create the prior info as ...

Narrative Report - facts help
I would like the basic facts to show next to descendants in the narrative report, when the person does not have marriage/children. for example: Freeborn Balch (1634-1657) Birth [this is empty, yet I have a birth date in facts] Freeborn does have a narrative note underneath, but basic facts are missi...

Output to Word
I use the Narrative reports almost exclusively. I know a lot of people prefer rtf, but output to Word would enable pictures to be embedded within text. I have to do a lot of editing to move tables around with rtf, in particular the media.

Ancestor lineage in narrative report
I am a former TMG user. One of the great parts of the Descendant narrative report was the ability to see the lineage of the person. For example, if John Smith was 5th generation, his direct male ancestors would be listed in parentheses next to his name. 142 John Smith (John, Samuel, George, John). T...

Narrative Report - children w/ no descendants
I am a former TMG user. When creating a narrative report in TMG, I liked having the (+) sign only next to children who had descendants. If a child did not have a descendant, there was no (+) sign and pictures would be embedded with the child's name - under the parents only. In FH I can't seem to get...

Re: MS Word from RTF, pictures cannot be embedded
Aha! Under format for the table is an option to change the layout to text. When I highlight the table, the option to convert to text is on the far right side. The table has to be highlighted/chosen. I have to do one table at a time, but that is okay because not every individual has pictures and/or m...

Re: MS Word from RTF, pictures cannot be embedded
Thank you Mike, a bit tricky separating the picture from the table. I am used to right clicking and formatting, but for some reason I have to use the actual format tab. Yesterday that tab was grayed out, probably because I was not isolating the actual picture from the table. Today, it works! Interes...

MS Word from RTF, pictures cannot be embedded
I exported a narrative report in RTF, opened it in Word 2016. The pictures appear to be within tables. I cannot seem to format them as pictures. I want to embed them within the text. The edit pictures option is grayed out. I can move the pics next to each other, just not within the text. Any ideas o...

Re: Google Maps multiple people in one location
Yes Mike, thank you. That is what I used for the import and it worked amazingly well. Google maps itself I think is the issue. I have one marker in Salem, MA... when 20 or more people were born there. I was expecting to see a list of people born at that location, but only see one person.

Google Maps multiple people in one location
I really like the FH mapping feature, but am not quite certain how to share it with others other than in jpeg format. So, I exported my birth data with queries (to avoid spouses) with lat/long to cvs format, opened with excel, cleaned up the file a bit, and imported into google maps. I forgot about ...

Re: Advice on Best Report Formats
I have published (2) books, one a lengthy volume filled with pictures & stories.. the other much, much smaller. (20 pages) I use the narrative descendants by generation report. This gives me a bit of story look to my book, lists people by generations, and numbers them. I did have to tweak the fo...

Thank you for your help! Former TMG user
I just wanted to take a minute and thank everyone for all of their help, and the use of the forums. I have found most of the answers to my questions through the forums, either direct question or search. I have always found forums to be easier than the "help" menu. As a former TMG user I re...

Everything seems to be sorted out just fine! thank you very much for all of your helpful advice. I think I'm getting the hang of this, now correcting a number of items from the import.

Thank you Jane,
In the burial fact - The "post-death" box is grayed out; however, Post-Death is in the box. Fact Set standard, fact type event.
Cause of death worked great, I could change that to post-death

Your suggestion:
Regarding abbreviated Place names, as I said, open Report > Options > Main tab and untick Use Short Form for Repeated Place Names lower left.
fixed both problems, many thanks

Re: Where to host tree for posterity
My tree and GEDCOM will go to a local Historical Society that I work with. It would be great if one of my kids took up the torch.. but they probably will not.
I also bring any old docs to them, because they have climate controlled libraries.
