Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot

Even better, thank you, I like the facility to click on a name and make that the root person and that font size can be altered within a pane as well as for the whole window. I don't have an opinion re the arrows since I only really use the mouse control. This is mainly to thank you for the info re t...

Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot

All looks good to me, sorry not to have got back before, been heavily involved in eating various Christmas meals this week, now just having a break before going off to the next one. PS I tried changing 'marriage' to partner for everyone as you said, Mike, but doesn't seem to work in all instances. N...

Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot

I think the STD option would be preferable, as Arthur says it is confusing to have people with apparently huge life spans. Presumably the STD option would include dates that are Calc, or Est, or quarterly? Is 'Partner' a standard Fact or have you created a custom one? If so will it be picked up? Als...

Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot

I agree with Arthur for all points.

I guess that if there are lots of children or siblings then it might be preferable to just display the BMD as you describe to reduce content. Could this be a choice in the 'Options' button in the fullness of time?

Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot

This is brilliant Mike, thank you. Only one query - I noticed that it puts in a date for birth or death where there is none and the dates it chooses seem a bit random eg on the attached John Sankey - no dates, it puts in ~1820 - ~1954 , or Emily Clarke - birth date 1847 but no death date, it puts in...

Re: Quick Child/Family Snapshot

Would it be possible to export or save this snapshot as .pdf or jpeg, for example? I am thinking it would be useful for putting into a Word document, for example, for village histories of various people, and families. I did it as a clip on the attached so you can see what I mean. It was much quicker...

Re: Historical Event Timeline

Have added these to the basic expression and they work a treat, see the attached jpeg (hopefully). (The historical facts seem rather random as they relate to different branches of my family, in practise I would set up 4 or 5 different ones.

Thanks.

Re: Historical Event Timeline

The reason I liked that one was that it included the words "Historical Fact" in the result, which was an easy phrase to select (well 'hist' actually) in the spreadsheet to determine which rows would be highlighted. I hadn't tweaked the sentence in option 2 so it came out oddly, but now I h...

Re: Historical Event Timeline

You were right, I worked so hard at making sure the formulae were correct that I didn't notice that the individual 'Historical Fact' actually had 'Historical' as surname - I have looked at the 3 variations and I like option 3 best (which is first download). If I were producing this in a repor...

Re: Historical Event Timeline

I tried this but cannot get the historical facts on the same query result as the individual, only one or the other and the historical facts are always the complete list. Should you be able to select the named individual and historical facts in the selection box, if so, how? I think I have put the ex...

Re: FH 6.2 - FindMyPast Hints

I agree this is a great enhancement. :D So far most of the records I have checked are either records I have previously added -to be 'Accepted', or records that I know that are incorrect - to be 'Rejected'. However there are some that I am not quite sure about and need to investigate further when I a...

Re: Moving FH settings to a new pc

DONE IT!! :D In fact the colours of the Focus window didn't change to those I had set up but everything else has, as far as I can tell. When I ran the restore, having unticked the box as you said, there were 2 or 3 commands come up in bright pink, which I guessed at the right response (can't r...

Re: Moving FH settings to a new pc

Hi Mike Thanks for that, no I wasn’t looking at the green file path in the plug in. I went back to the old pc and created a folder called Backups and selected it so the green file path was: C:\Users\Chris\Documents\FH Projects\Backups – then I ran the backup. I have copied it into the same position ...

Re: Moving FH settings to a new pc

Hi Mike The backup data path for the old pc is: FH Projects / 1 other stuff / Family Historian / Program Data I first copied it along with all the other contents of by back up hard drive into a file called Retrieved contents on my new pc, obviously the file layout was as above. At first I copied and...

Re: Device Drivers for Windows 8 or 10

I had an HP scanner which I used in Windows 7 via Irfanview and it worked a treat. I have now got a new pc with Windows 10 and I can't seem to get the scanner in Irfanview, so I am going to use the scanning facility on our printer, hadn't really bothered before.

Re: Moving FH settings to a new pc

Hi Mike Have only just got back onto my new pc, all the icons and the start button on the task bar stopped working/disappeared, which taxed my husband's brain mightily. By a miracle he got it back (I think by pressing the windows key and the L key in case anyone has the same problem and has tried th...

Re: Moving FH settings to a new pc

Hi Mike Thanks for your advice, I think I was going wrong because I had not set the default back-up folder so it saved them where it wanted. I have tidied up the file structure and set the default backup folder but it still didn't work, kept telling me there was no data, whether I was using the subf...

Moving FH settings to a new pc

I have been following the Migration Guide to move my FH program and data to my new PC - very many thanks to Tatewise for the guide, otherwise I would have been totally stumped. The only problem is that I cannot restore the settings, as per item 7. I ran the plug in as per item 3, and it seemed to wo...

Re: 1939 Register on Find My Past

Thanks Adrian for the info re persons who were to be included. I haven't yet found my grandfather in the newspapers on FMP for the week in question, so I might "take a punt" and see if it is him if I need one set to make up my 5 family offer, but probably won't bother otherwise at the mome...

Re: 1939 Register on Find My Past

Were people registered at their home (electoral roll) address, or at the address they were at on 29th September? I am trying to find my grandfather, there seems to be only one candidate, assuming the birth year is reasonably correct, but he is not where I think he would have been living. However he ...

Re: GRO Registration Data & Place Data

I tend to leave the place and address fields blank, unless I am pretty sure that they coincide with the registration area. The quarter date is a clue and then I put the details of place, volume and page in the note. The people in my current project are born married and died in my village, but the re...
