Re: Fact Name
Never noticed that before! Thought the name was the one which appeared because that cannot be changed but the label can. Have been using the name as a shortened version of the label when I should have done the opposite!

Fact Name
Why is the Fact Label appearing in the Event/Attribute list for one of my facts instead of the Fact Name?

Re: MyHeritage cost
I have been a subscriber to Ancestry for about 6 years... I am wondering whether to subscribe to My Heritage as well... does anyone have a view on the pros and cons ? Personally, I think I wasted my money by subscribing to MH. I don't like the user interface and it has not given me anything more th...

Re: MyHeritage cost
Well, if you don't use the FH link how would MH know you're a FH user? I agree. I should have thought of that as I went through the sign-up process with them but I must have been distracted. My own fault. Of course, they could have given me a refund and allowed me to sign-up again thro' FH b...

Re: MyHeritage cost
Don't do what I did!
I signed up for MH but not through the link in FH so MH refused to discount the price even though I am a FH user.

Re: Fact Count
Not sure quite what details you wanted but attached is a simple evolution of the Plugin. If you want more Facts listed then just edit the table of GEDCOM Tags near the start. I was interested in your suggestion that the search would not just produce a COUNT but would identify people who were missin...

Re: Fact Count
Rather than just a count of Facts , what might be more focussed is a Query that examines Birth , Marriage , Death , and possibly other Events . e.g. It could identify all Ancestors with criteria such as Event missing, or without Source citation, or without Multimedia . Sorry for the confusion! I sh...

Sources
Although I have used FH for several years I have never got round to asking why when I create a Source and complete the TEXT FROM SOURCE and NOTES sections that content does not appear on the 'front' yellow sections.

Re: Irish Census
Should have also suggested that you may also wish to consider something like this Advanced JPEG Compressor at http://www.winsoftmagic.com/ajc.html The pdf is much smaller in size than a jpeg so I try to reduce the jpg size once it is converted. As regards conversion I just use my scanner software wh...

Re: Ancestry trees ~ import to FH
You are probably right :D However, getting pointers from other experienced users helps focus the mind. Of course, there is always the other Rumsfield Option that there are always 'things we don't know we don't know' and posting on here sometimes highlights that. I still rue the time I spent entering...

Re: Ancestry trees ~ import to FH
For all my data I like to keep 1 Master and copy from that (i.e. I don't sync, I just copy), saves a lot of headscratching, duplication and loss of data. KISS-Keep It Simple Stupid. I find when I use Ancestry I am all over the place and often dropping into other databases for corroborating evidence...

Re: Ancestry trees ~ import to FH
If you follow the route I outlined, the only step that affects your main Project is the Merge . Always make a Backup before you start just in case. The Merge has lots of options to choose what data is incorporated. The main Project data is retained by default and only changed if you choose to. See ...

Re: Ancestry trees ~ import to FH
It depends how much data is involved. . . can be deleted. You are not far off the mark. What I have been doing is exporting from the main FH Tree smallish GEDCOMs by selecting small 'family' groups; putting them into ancestry to see what hints are generated; and then I intend to bring the new data ...

Re: Ancestry trees ~ import to FH
Makfai , I suspect the easiest way forward is to update your FH data with each new piece of Ancestry data by hand. The only way of exporting from Ancestry is as a Gedcom for the whole tree, so it would be tricky to extract from that just the new data you wanted. Thanks, that is what I am doing now ...

Ancestry trees ~ import to FH
I use ancestry but mainly for getting hints and allowing other family members to view/contribute. I don't upload all my data from FH about a person but just enough to trigger hints. FH is my main 'repository'. When I want to import to FH the data which I have found from ancestry hints how can I best...

Re: What other software do you use for Family History?
I have posted this elsewhere but thought it was worth copyimg to this topic. I have started experimenting with TRELLO https://trello.com/platforms It means I can access my research across platforms. I didn't appreciate its value until I got into it but one of the advantages would be, for example, al...

I do not agree 'that data on any device (smartphone, tablet, or computer) that is ever connected to the Internet or a Wireless network is 'In the Public Domain'.. Re: FH V6 My Heritage Hints
I have followed this thread with interest... I agree entirely that such links should be on an Opt-In basis. However, I am very much a novice with both Family History and Family Historian and consequently any assistance is always welcome. I was aware of 'Internet Data Matching' from the pre-release ...
