Ancestral Sources v3.0 – Now supports Marriage, Census & Baptism records
Ancestral Sources, a free utility to be used alongside Family Historian, was first released in 2010 and has quickly become the recommended way to enter census and baptism information into your Family Historian file. Version 3.0 is a major update providing support for the entry of Marriage records. Ancestral Sources is the successor to the popular Gedcom Census utility by the same author, Nick Walker.
About Ancestral Sources
Most of the information that is added to a family history file originates from one of just a few types of document, namely birth, marriage and death certificates, church baptisms, marriages and burials, census records and probate records. The concept of Ancestral Sources is that it allows the data from these source documents to be entered directly into the software, building up the family history data in a more intuitive approach than the usual methods used by genealogy applications. For example, typically entering a census household entry in a family history application requires multiple facts such as census, occupation, birth, etc. to be created for each individual, all linked back to a source via citations: a very time consuming exercise. Ancestral Sources makes this far easier and much quicker to achieve.
Version 3.0 of Ancestral Sources offers support for Marriage, Census and Baptism records. Support for other sources will be added in later versions.
Load your Family Historian file or project into Ancestral Sources and you will be able to quickly add census, marriage or baptism records to your file. Simply enter the census record and Ancestral Sources will carry out the time-consuming and boring tasks of creating census, occupation, birth, nationality, and other facts, citations, sources, multi-media records and flags for you. You can even add new individuals to your file without going back into Family Historian. Adding marriage and baptism records is equally straight-forward, creating multiple events effortlessly.
Ancestral Sources is free but the author does appreciate donations from those who find the application useful. The donation option can be found in the help menu of the software.
You can get support from the Ancestral Sources forum on this site or via email: see the help menu in Ancestral Sources for further details. Please do not ask for support for Ancestral Sources on the rootsweb mailing list as that is an official Calico Pie mailing list and Ancestral Sources is not a Calico Pie product.
What’s new in version 3.0?
This version includes various enhancements to the original, many inspired by suggestions from users and there are also a number of bug fixes. The most significant new feature is the ability to add details from marriage records. There are a number of marriage ‘auto-text templates’ included. A full list of the many new features can be found in the help-file or on-line here.

Cracking indeed. I was a gedcom 4 user (and donator) and it was brilliant. Took a gap from family tree research (in part helping bring up my own family , am now back, and we have ancestral sources. Marriage certificates as well as census! Ace. My thought is this. Do I wait for Nick to update it to include Birth certs before entering any of these into FH5? Nick - do you have any sort of timelines in mind please?

Hi - please note this isn't the right place to ask questions - use the forums or drop me an email. Version 3 is an old version of AS now. No promises on time-scales for other versions. Burials and Deaths will be next - hopefully for release around Autumn.
