A release candidate for version 4.1 has been available for download since March, but has never been officially released as 4.1. We have now updated the release candidate again. The 3-digit version number of the previous release candidate was 4.1.1. The new release candidate is 4.1.2. Anyone who has a full version (i.e. not a trial or a demo) of version 4 can now download this, and upgrade to 4.1.2.
The new release candidate is available for download now at:
We have tried to anticipate some possible questions you may have:
Q. If I previously installed a release candidate for 4.1 should I upgrade now?
A. You can of course upgrade to 4.1.2 now, like any other version 4 users, but there is no special urgency.
Q. If I have a previous release candidate, do I have to uninstall first and then reinstall version 4, before upgrading to 4.1.2?
A. No. Just upgrade in the usual way.
Q. When I run Family Historian, the startup picture only shows a 2 digit version number. So where does this 3rd digit come from? A. The image you see when you start FH only ever shows the first 2 digits of the current version number. To find the 3rd digit, click on 'About Family Historian' on the Help menu when you have a project open. To learn more about FH version numbers, see http://www.family-historian.co.uk/downloads/versions.
Q. What's new in 4.1.2? A. The new tweaks and enhancements are listed in a section at the end of the 'What's New in 4.1' page (see link above).
Q. What's the difference between a release and a "release candidate"? A. Hopefully nothing. If no serious issues are found, 4.1.2 will hopefully be the official release version when we announce it.
